Q: My eyes hurt, I have crohn's disease what can i do?
Im newly diagnosed and taking a 5ASA mezavant, not any steroids, and my eyes hurt. Ive read somewhere that the tissue of the eye can swell with crohns and can be treated with steroid eye drops but i cant make it to the hospital until tomorrow, so what can i do tonight?
A: Hello...Crohn's can effect your eyes. Since you're not on a steroid than the pressure in your eyes should be normal...go the eye doctor and have them check for Iritis...it is common with Crohn's Disease...
Q: Ulcerative Colitis anyone?
My husband has colitis for 6 years, he has tried everything from steroids to completely holistic methods. In November 08 he was diagnosed with Tuberculosis. Anyway, he has been on Mezavant since then as well as Salofalk suppositories. But things are still not under control. We have been thinking about the bag, (sorry can't remember the medical term) Has anyone had that? Was it hard to adjust? What about things like, swimming, sex, public bathrooms, and stuff like that. I would love to here from your experience.
Thanks
A: I had colitis for 10 years, then developed Primary Schlerosing Cholangitis. I had a liver transplant. Later I kept bleeding intestinally so they took out my large colon. They said I'd need a bag, but I don't.
One thing I do is use Kayopectate to relieve diarrhea. It's made a big difference in my life.
Q: Question for people who have Crohn's Disease?
Hi there!
I have had Crohn's Disease for about 5 years now and I have it pretty bad. Before getting on my recent medication, I would have flare-ups all the time. I feel now that I have got a bit of control with it when I can remember to take my pills I feel good. However, before being diagnosed, I lost about 50 lbs. because I could not eat anything. I was actually happy with myself and not depressed. Now I find that I am depressed because no matter what I do I cannot lose the weight again. I am on the medication Mezavant and I also take iron pills. I was just wondering if anyone else with Crohn's has trouble losing weight or is it just me? Sometimes I feel so crappy about myself because I was happy when I was thinner as I spent most of my life slightly over-weight. I just want to get back to being healthier again. Anyone having this problem please let me know what you do or some helpful tips. Once the nice weather comes again I plan on working out and enjoying the outdoors again. Thanks in advance for your help!!!
Maybe I didn't word it right but I gained back the weight that I lost previously so I am back at square one.
A: You ARE healthier now than you were 50 lbs ago with active Crohn's. Be thankful that you have found a medication that works and that you are healthy. There is no way that losing 50 pounds because you can't digest anything is "healthy".
However, if you want to lose a reasonable amount of weight because it makes you look better, and that makes you feel better about yourself, there is nothing wrong with that. Go to the gym daily and do resistance as well as aerobic training - any good trainer at the gym should be able to set you up with a program. Get a consultation with a nutritionist who can set you up on a reasonable diet, then resign yourself to losing not more than a pound a week. It will be harder because of your disease, but you CAN do it.
Glad to hear you are feeling better!
