Q: Pristiq???????????????????????????????
Does anyone know anything about Pristiq? The good and the bad about this medication. I disagree with that. If a person takes medication for heart disease nobody goes up and tells them they don't have to take medication, that they are unbalanced. I know for a fact that I need medication to lead a normal life which relieves the symptoms of my disorder. I have found that I cannot function without it, I nearly quit my job, had panic attacks constantly, and spent every day the whole day crying because of my depression. Thank you for answering my question but that's not what I'm looking for. I will still give you the points for trying though

A: I know nothing about it specifically, or personally. Q: pristiq.....?
my doctor prescribed me prisliq today.. i was wondering if anyone has had any success on it, and how long it takes to start feeling results... thanks for any info.

A: IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE YOU START TO FEEL BETTER. DON'T STOP NOW. FOR A LOT OF INFORMATION GO TO: http://www.drugs.com/pristiq.html Pristiq Generic Name: desvenlafaxine Date of Approval: February 29, 2008 Company: Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Treatment for: Major Depressive Disorder

Q: How long does it take for pristiq to work?
I switched from lexapro to pristiq two weeks ago. I took lexapro for four months and it wasn't really working. I have been on pristiq for just over two weeks. I feel like a complete mess.. Does it just take awhile to work or is it not right for me?

A: I just started it 8 days ago...I felt better right away the second day up until today, now I am not doing so great today...I hope tomorrow is better and it will work for me. Dr said to give it 4-6 weeks to take full effect. Hope you do well on it..

Q: Can taking Pristiq affect the quality and/or quantity of my husband's sperm?
My husband currently takes Pristiq. We are going to start trying to conceive soon and want to know if this drug will affect the quality and/or quantity of his sperm. Should he stop taking it while we are trying to conceive?

A: I never heard that it can. I take Pristiq but my husband doesnt but he doesnt have any sperm anyway. I dont think it can effect the quality but Im not sure about the quantity. Good Luck and God Bless!!!

Q: Pristiq vs Effexor how are they different?
I have taken Effexor XR in the past and my Doctor brought up Pristiq. Is this one actually better (less side effects) and worth trying out?

A: When you take Effexor, the active ingredient is a chemical called venlafaxine. This substance passes through the liver and undergoes metabolism by an enzyme called Cytochrome P450 2D6 and becomes o-desmethylvenlafaxine. It's believed that by using just pristiq(ODV) as opposed to the mixture of venlafaxine/ODV that occurs as Effexor is broken down, there will be better side effects. Basically what you are doing with Pristiq is skipping this step of conversion. It would be useful if you were deficient in CYP 2D6(very common for people of an east asian ethnicity). It's worth a try, but I'd get it in samples. The current clinical data collection doesn't seem to show that the side effect profile is all that much better.

Q: How has Pristiq (generic name, desvenlafaxine) worked for you?
Please only answer the question if you have taken it before or are taking it currently. Has it helped or hurt your depression? What kind of listed or not listed side effects are you experiencing? Overall is it working for you? I am not looking for wikipedia answers or links to other websites. I do not want answers from people who work in mental health unless if you personally have taken Pristiq yourself. All first party perspective opinions of the medication would be very helpful. thanks for the reply.

A: Hi i have borderline personality disorder and started takin pristiq 3 weeks ago, apparently it was just my head but i felt better the second i took it...i felt a sense of contentment, almost a week after i took it we had some speed though and since then im back to feeling prety much my shitty self again......overall i think they are making everything a tiny bit more easier to to deal with but not enough for real improvment. the first week they made me tired also. hope this helps sorry if doenst make sense lol

Q: What would happen if I took a mouth's worth of Pristiq 50 Ml tablets?
It has been on my mind recently what would happen to me if I took a mouth's worth of Pristiq 50 Ml tablets?

A: serotonin syndrome. It's ugly and is unlikely to kill you (you'll just wish you were dead).

Q: My doctor just increased my Pristiq to 100 mg is this too high of a dose?
From what I have read the normal dose is 50 mg and higher doses are not more effective and create more side effects. Anyone taking more than 50mg of Pristiq a day?

A: That does seem like a lot. Better check with someone else that knows about this Drug.

Q: Has anyone had weight gain and anxiety with Pristiq?
I just started pristiq about 3 weeks ago. I have noticed an increase in anxiety and I can't seem to stop eating. I have gained about 10 to 15 pounds. Has anyone experienced this? Will the anxiety and weightgain (huge appetite) go away? I am thinking of trying to switch to lexapro. Any thoughts?

A: I haven't tried Pristiq -- I've been considering it lately also. But I had TERRIBLE weight gain with Lexapro (like 30 pounds); I had never had any problems with my weight at all, until I started taking it, but I just couldn't stop eating. I also had pretty frequent headaches. Plus, most importantly, it did not help my symptoms at all (depression/some anxiety). I was definitely not a fan of Lexapro. Wellbutrin SR, however, has been a lifesaver. It keeps me sane, and the Lexapro weight came off magically after I started taking the Wellbutrin. Sorry, no insight about the Pristiq, though.

Q: Can anyone give me a comparison of effexer and pristiq? experience with both?
I am taking pristiq but it is really expensive and I took effexor a long time ago and think maybe it has less weight gain issues. I can't find a website that compares the two of them side by side.

A: Pristiq, compared with Effexor XR, should be seen for what it is, an evolution in an existing chemical compound, trying to address some of the concerns with the current drug. Time will tell whether the side effects are more tolerable than those associated with Effexor XR or not. Because unless Wyeth releases the drug at a lower price point than Effexor XR (which is highly unlikely), Pristiq will have to prove itself as more than just another antidepressant. Take care of yourself!

Q: has anyone had major weight loss on pristiq?
I have been taking Pristiq since April. I have lost 2 dress sizes and about 20 pounds. Has anyone else experienced the same side effects?

A: When I first started taking it, it did make me not as hungry, but that only last about 2 months. I decided to quit taking it because of the night sweats, vivid dreams, and lack of sleep i get from taking it. I have never had withdraw symtoms this bad from any medication. So if you ever decide to stop taking it, dont do it cold turkey like im doing. I feel like electric shocks are going through my head and body. Good Luck and God Bless!

Q: Can taking Pristiq affect my husband's sperm quality and/or quantity?
My husband currently takes Pristiq. We are going to start trying to conceive soon and want to know if this drug will affect the quality and/or quantity of his sperm. Should he stop taking it while we are trying to conceive? Can it be harmful to a baby conceived while he is taking the drug?

A: my husband was on this med when we conceived our child and there is no problems with our child thus far. im 13 weeks pregnant. i know that the side effect of that drug is decreased sex drive. and it is a 100 % true!! so thats the only bad side of it! that medicine made my husband worse then he was before he got on it. i hope it works better for your husband then it did mine! good luck

Q: Pristiq-how long did it take for you to get the full effect of the medication?
i have been taking Pristiq for about 1 month. i have not had any side effects but have not felt all that much better. i am really worried that its not going to work and im going to be trapped with these feelings of self guilt and sadness for the rest of my life.

A: I have been on many different meds over the years, and not one seemed to take any significant effect for at least 6 weeks, sometimes longer, and some had no effect at all. Be patient and hang in there, call your Dr if you are having doubts about your meds, he will give you the facts.

Q: Why is the Pristiq commerical so damn stupid?
This woman needs nothing more than some Visine and a good swift kick in the ass. And whats with that wind up toy? People who are toting around replica toys of themselves need more than just something for depression alone. Why does she stare longingly at the damn toy for like 15 seconds, too? Whats the thing even doing there in the first place, she's supposed to be spending time with her family, not staring at some creepy Saw-like toy until her eyes get red.

A: I know! I hate that commercial I just want to slap her.

Q: Is Pristiq basically the same thing as Effexor?
I have been on Pristiq for about 2 months now. Should I be seeing the same thing I would if I were on Effexor? I requested from my doctor to be put on Effexor but he gave me Pristiq instead. Thanks.

A: Effexor is a SSRI, works on only one pathway in the neurochemical make up of your brain. Pristiq is a SNRI and works along two neurochemical pathways in your brain. If after two months you feel you are not getting relief, consult a psychiatrist, not your family doctor. The psychiatrist is much better qualified to help you find the medication that will work best for you.
