Q: What is the generic name for Prevacid?
Just wondering.
A: Lansoprazole
Q: Is there a generic equivalent to the drug Prevacid?
A: The generic name for Prevacid is Lansoprazole. However, the usual patent time on drugs is 25 years, so Prevacid has a long time to run yet, before a generic will be released. The Canadian pharmacies claim to sell it, but I wouldn't buy anything there unless my doctor specifically prescribed it. No generic as Lansoprazole, has been approved by the FDA and likely won't be for some years yet.
Q: When is prevacid going to be generic?
prevacid is a drug used for gerd
A: depends on which country. in the US I think it has a few more years to go, but you can buy the generic online and have it mailed to you. take a look at Low-Cost-Rx.com under prevacid. by the way the generic name is Lansoprazole
Q: generic version of prevacid?
stomache medicine
A: You couls try Prilosec, it is available over the counter. However, there is a prescription Prilosec as well, but that one is a higher dose. Ask you physician if it is ok for you to take two of the OTC pills to equal the strength of the prescription one. Don't do this without getting advice from your physician, but for most people it is ok. Good Luck and feel better!
Q: When will (or are) Prevacid or Nexium going to be available as a generic?
A: Prevacid (lansoprazole) is currently due to come off patent (and thus be available for a generic version) in the latter part of 2008.
Q: what is a good heartburn medication i get get in a generic form?
I used to take prevacid for my heartburn a while ago then I stopped taking it when my heartburn went away but now it is getting bad again. My presription copay went up to $50 dollars for brand name medications. What is something good I can take that comes in a generic form?
A: Pepcid works well. Gavascon is awesome, but you know what works the best for me, and it is the cheapest by far is sodium bicarbonate. "baking soda" about 1/4 teaspoon in a 1/2 cup water, mix until clear and slam it down, chase with more water. Works wonders.
Q: What are the simliarites and differences between Prilosec, Prevacid, and other medicines their family as them?
Basically, would like to know since my prescription to generic prilosec is about to ran out last week. At this time I bought Prevacid 24 hr (over counter of it). Got the biggest box of it and started to take it last week. At the same time I was told I had to see my doctor in order to get more of it. Which I totally not worth it in the long run since I have tried Prevacid in the past as well. The reason why I was on Prilosec at the time because insurance stopped covering Prevacid and had to switched to Prilosec at that time. Also, my parents are on also on Prilosec as well. One of them is in the same situation as me, but still is on prescription (generic) Prilosec (might switch to OTC version) and the other one is on Prilosec OTC.
Believe thats it for now.
Thank you, in advance.
A: I was suffering from acid reflux, indigestion, bloated belly, constipation and nausea for years. I took all that over the counter stuff, gas pills, tums, you name it. Went to the gastro doc, and had 2 colonoscopys. When I would lay down it would come burning back up. Gross. A friend said try this diet, no sugar, no wheat, grains or dairy. She said try it for a week, I thought, what the heck, why not. I have been eating this way since Jan 1 and all of my stomach problems are gone.
I am eating rice, all veges, cooked and raw, fruit, meat, potaotes. Corn tortillas made only from corn/lime. So no bread, donuts, beer, licorice ( has wheat in it), tomato soup (unless you make your own) no mystery ingredients. Potato chips and plain doritos are ok as is tequila (this is made from a plant and not grains) anyway you get the idea.
It's just a week out of you and your families lives and since you all suffer, try it.
The problem stems from food intolerances and one you figure out what yours is, you can start adding foods back in. I now, know I can't eat chocolate or wheat or peanuts. So by by snickers.
Q: Generic zoloft (sertraline)?
I take 150 mgs. of sertraline daily. This requires me to take one pill, then split another. It seems like the split pill gets lodged in my throat then causes severe heartburn....which I shouldn't have in the first place because I take prevacid daily. It also makes my neck feel weird, like stiff and sore... Anyone else experience this? How does it affect you?
A: yea i have had the problem to,,,im on zoloft but on others meds i would not drink enough right after to get the pill down so my neck would kill
Q: Please edit this into correct english?
Prevacid is quite expensive though. Lansaprazole is a generic drug used as a subtitute of Prevacid. Sold at very low price compare to its brand version. This calculation will show you.

Q: If you were highly allergic to antibiotics you took, how long would it take to throw it up?
Basically, I was prescribed an antibiotic for my sinus infection. I took it at 3PM today, and then had a muffin. I stayed at school for another hour for extracurriculars. I went home, had soup (I did feel sort of bad after eating it; I have acid reflux and I felt the symptoms coming on right after having it) and then went to sleep. Two hours later, I woke up -- my stomach hurt. Ten minutes later, I was throwing up this pretty clear... yeah. It looked like I threw up a pill, though, too. I wasn't really sure... I HAVE to go to school tomorrow. I have my AP exam coming up, and I cannot miss tomorrow. I'm on Zyrtec D, Tylenol Cold Severe (generic), antibiotics and now Prevacid (antacid). I'm afraid that if I take the antibiotic tomorrow, I might throw up. Both my sister, mother and aunt are highly alergic to Amoxillin. I don't know if it was the soup that caused it, or the Amoxillin Antibiotic.
So my question is this: if I was actually allergic to the Amoxillin Antibiotic pill, how long would it have taken me to throw it up? Minutes, hours...? I need to know whether it was the soup or the pill, that way I know what to take and what not to take in the morning.
A: allergies to Amoxil don't usually present with vomiting it may have been the soup. Try one before tomorrow and see what happens
Q: I have a problem?
i am just getting over a sinus infection/virus today. I am on Zithromax, generic name is zithromayacin. There's just one problem. I have GERD and i need to take a prevacid every night for it. However, i can't take antacids with the Zithro. What do i do? This is a real dilema, someone please help?
A: Well, Zithro is used for treating a suspected bacterial infection and is a pretty potent drug. You should only need to take it for 3 - 5 days. The caution with GERD treatment is to stay away from Aluminum- and magnesium-containing antacids because they reduce the peak serum level of Zithro. Check with your Pharmacist for a recomendation of what to take while on the Zithro. Note: stay away from Mylanta and Malox and things like that.
Q: Can health insurance companies lower the strength of your prescribe medication?
I lost my job and I am now on Cobra. My health insurance renewal was in January and I changed to an HMO because it was less money. Now I am having problems getting my medicine. I have a stomach condition and I been taking Nexus or Prevacid for many years. My HMO does not recognize either of them and change my medicine to a generic brand (Omeprazole) I don’t mind taking generic medication especially when it cost a lot less, as long as it works. I am now having problems with my stomach and just realized not only did the insurance company forced me to generic brand, they also lowered the strength from 40mg to 20mg. My question is can health insurance companies legally change the strength of medication a doctor prescribes?
A: I think Prevacid is available Over The Counter (without a prescription). I'm not sure about Nexus, but I think it is the same.
HMO's and things like that WILL NOT pay prescription prices for drug that you can buy without a prescription. So they recommend a generic, prescription-only drug.
The change in dosage may be necessary for the Omeprazole. It may simply be twice as powerful as Nexus or Prevacid, and thus need 1/2 the dose.
ASk your pharmacist for possible OTC replacements.
CONSULT YOUR DOCTRO concerning the generic and its dosages.
Q: I'm looking for a Pill Size Chart. Anyone ever seen/have one? Show sizes of prescription medicine - printable
I have always had problems with pills that my doctors prescribe and I'm always had to take the route of asking if they make a liquid or if they make something that I can crush. Well, sometimes they don't make a certain prescription medicine in liquid or it's a time-released pill (and can't be crushed/broken up).
I know my doc is going to prescribe some medicine for me this week after my surgery and I know he's going to want me on it for a long time.
I was curious if there was any website out there that showed the different/actual sizes of different pills? I know they have sites that show you pictures of the pills, but I was hoping to find an accurate listing of how big these pills are. It's hard to know by just a picture.
PS...I'm probably going to be on some sort of PPI medicine like Prevacid, Protonix or Nexium. I know the Prevacid has a Solutab, but it's really pricey. I'm trying to get a generic and I can't take a huge pill. I literally choke on anything (even Tylenol).
A: I don't think there are any websites that describe how big they are. Perhaps some have a measuring tape in the picture for comparison, but most don't.
Talk to your doctor about the problem -- sometimes there are alternative forms, like syrups, injections or bandages. In some cases, the pills can also be ground up into some form of syrup at the pharmacy, but I think this may be difficult if you have to be on it for a long time. Also, some medication has a time-release mechanism in the pill so the medication is released slowly over several hours. Those pills are usually large and cannot be ground up.
I'm sorry if I couldn't help much. I suggest you definitely bring this up with both your doctor and your pharmacist.
Good luck, and get better!
Q: 5 week old fusses a lot while eating?!?
My 5 week old fusses a lot when he eats. He thrives for the formula, takes a couple of gulps and then pushes the bottle away and cries. I then put the bottle back in his mouth and it starts all over again.
He was extremely gassy and colic. He has been switched from Lipil to AR to Gentlelease and is now on Nutramigen. The nutramigen has been great for the colic and has subsided the gas. He also has silent reflux and is on prevacid. I cannot stand seeing him whimper and cry while eating. Babies are supposed to enjoy eating. Can it be the colic or the reflux hurting him that much? He has been on the prevacid for over a week now.
**Of course I have called the doctor and I get the generic answers about how babies sometimes get fussy while they eat. I have an appt Sat but wanted to know what you think.
The only thing I have not tried is changing the bottles. Does anyone recommend a particular brand? We use the Playtex Ventaire. Could it be that he is taking in air? Sometimes he seems like he is sucking so hard. I have tried the fast nipples but they are too fast for him right now. Thank you in advance for your time and responses.
A: My 7 week old daughter did the same thing and i took her to the doctor and they told me she had acid reflux. Along with fussing while eating she would arch her back and kick her legs alot. She also got the hiccups 5-6 times a day and spit up alot. I am breastfeeding so i havent had to try changing bottles. They just had me change my diet alot (ie no diary, nuts, spicy foods, butter, caffeine,or carbonation). So,they put her on a liquid Zantac 3x per day. But just make sure they flavor it because otherwise it is very better to most babies.
Q: I have a hiatal hernia?
Okay so I am sixteen and have been very sick for ten months now. On Monday, I underwent a procedure where my gastrologist put a camera down my throat. She discovered that I have a small-ish hiatal hernia with mild acid reflux esophagitis, and mild gastritis.
She said that it was too small of a hernia to consider surgery because if she attempted it, it would more than likely make things worse.
Her only recommendation for treatment was to eat smaller meals. Wtf? Ive been trying that for months and I promise you, it does NOTHING.
She prescribed me Prevacid at one point a few months back, and it helped a bit, but my insurance now refuses to cover it and it costs up to three hundred dollars a bottle. I am now stuck taking generic Prilosec OTC and it honestly dosnt help at all.
I was under sedation when the gastrologist was explaining all of this to my mother and she dosnt quite understand because this woman is horrible at explaining things.
So I guess what my question is, is what exactly IS
So I guess what my question is, is what exactly IS a hiatal hernia? And what are the other two things listed in the diagnosis? Does anybody else have this? And if so, what do you do to ease the severe pain that comes along with this?
A: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hiatal-hernia/DS00099
This is the best explanation of what a hiatal hernia is.
Good luck!
