Q: Why do the instructions for Lipitor say to take it at night?
Why should it matter what time of day you take it?

A: As the body produces most cholesterol at night, statins are generally more effective if taken at night. That's why they recommend you take Lipitor at night.

Q: can pravachol and lipitor be taken together?
My husbands dr. has put him on pravachol and now wants him to take lipitor with it. She has not tried to put him on a diet of any kind. He also has an enlarged heart.

A: These meds are ok and will work fine together. Though he needs not to drink grapefruit juice with the liptor. It will elevate the level of the drug. With both of these drugs don't take the herbs eucalyoptus, jin bu huan, kava or red yeast rice. They will increase risk of hepatotoxicity and adverse reactions.

Q: Lipitor side effect occur after 2 years ?
My mom has been on Lipitor for 2+ years. Very recently she has been feeling like a "zombie" as she put it. She feels no emotion and feels "empty". The only medication is has been on is Lipitor. I read the side effects of Lipitor and, sure enough, depression is one of them. Is it possible that even though she has been on Lipitor for 2+ years, the side effect can occur now? Thanks in advance!

A: I looked up atorvastatin (Lipitor) in the Micromedex evidence-based database and in the Drug Information Handbook (14th ed.). I found no evidence of depression as an adverse effect related to its use. I did find one recent article published in the Archives of Internal Medicine that looked specifically at "statin" use and depression, and they were unable to show a link (source below). Could you please share your source of information? Depression is a very complex state and stems from a huge variety of causes. Some of these causes are psychological, but a good many of them may be physical or hormonal. Menopause, lack of sleep, improper diet/exercise regimens, early onset diabetes, thyroid problems, anemias - these can all contribute symptoms that look like depression or lead to chemical imbalances that would be considered clinical depression. There's no way to know without first doing a "complete workup" (blood tests, liver tests, etc.). It is *possible*, that atorvastatin may be causing to some other adverse effect (e.g. muscle weakness, changes in your blood cells). These effects can become noticeable at any time during statin therapy, which is why your mom probably has regular liver function tests - if she hasn't, then she needs to soon. You do *not* want to abruptly stop your statin therapy without first talking to your doctor. This is not to say that you should ignore these signs or symptoms, because depression is serious and treatable. You definitely want to bring this up with your doctor as soon as possible. It helps to bring a "diary" of how your mom feels on a day-to-day basis (physically and mentally). They will first try to rule out a correctable physiological abnormalities, and then refer to a psychiatrist for evaluation. Let me know if you need clarification. Good luck and best wishes for your mother!

Q: How safe is angioprim to replace lipitor, metropolol & ramipril?
I have severe side effects from the three medications above. First a very sore throat than aching ears, jaws and headache, trouble breathing, consistent dry cough and trouble swallowing liquids. Doctor cannot find what the symptoms are so he gets me to use antibiotics. I started taking applecider vinegar to-day as a start to get off these drugs, am I ok?

A: my dad was on metroprolol was experiencing sob and he was on lipitor took him off are you also having sob

Q: Would I be alone if I thought Lipitor was the medical hoax of the century?
I was just wondering.

A: No you wouldn't, unless you were at a convention of cardiologists. The cardiologists would add it to the suppoly of drinking water if they could. Good question!

Q: What could happen if I quit taking my lipitor?
What could happen if I quit taking my colesterol medicine? If build up how quickly and what could happen? I am taking Lipitor

A: Cholesterol will start to build up again and faster than without the med. Depending on your overall health situation, over time your risk of coronary disease could increase.

Q: Have you or anyone you know experienced bad side effects from Lipitor?
It does reduce my cholesterol, but it also has serious side effects, and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I am going to ask my doctor to change the medication for another.

A: Not including myself I know 12 other people who are on Lipitor and none of us has ever had problems. I've been on it 2 years and the others have been on it as long or longer then me.

Q: Does it make sense to take statins (ie Lipitor) before taking a life insurance screening test?
I'm thinking about getting life insurance in the next few months. Does it make sense to take some medications to lower my cholesterol before I take the life insurance screening tests? Would the tests detect the drugs? And would that make a difference in my premium? In other words, is it better to take the drugs, have lower cholesterol, and have the drug detected in my blood? Or have the higher cholesterol and no drug in my system? Thanks!

A: Better to have proof that you are doing something about your cholesterol problem rather than take the tests and demonstrate that you are not taking care of yourself at all. Think about it; would you rather have an employee come in, manage things, have a problem and solve it, or have someone who comes in and ineffectually pushes papers around his desk, obviously demonstrating an inability to do his job? They will ask for a list of your medications anyway, so don't worry about it.

Q: Have any Pentacostals refused to take Plavix and Lipitor after being diagnosed with Atherosclerosis?
Are they afraid it will flush Jesus out of their hearts along with the fatty materials such as cholesterol, and is just another trick by evil science to make them lose faith?

A: Scientists are evil. There's no doubt about that, what with making up the entire fossil record and all. I don't think we even have skeletons in us. I think that's just a load of bull made up by the evolutionists. But the ones working on the medicines needed for one's own survival, those are the exceptions. And if any church leader desires something that automatically becomes non-evil, too. That's how God works. Everybody knows that.

Q: Will Lipitor ever be available in a generic form? I do know that there is a period of time that has to pass.?
I am curious as to know when will Lipitor be available in the generic form? I know that a number of years must pass after the patent. Hasn't the appropriate number of years passed already? Or is it just greed on the part of the big Drug Companies trying to squeeze the consumer even further, especially the way the economy is now. It is ashame that the big drug companies are so greedy. Thank you

A: I believe I heard that Lipitor will go off patent in a year or two in the U.S.. Crestor has two or three years to go

Q: can you die from taking an overdose of lipitor?
Im writing a paper for college and i wanted to know.

A: Not directly. It's a good way to kill your liver.

Q: has anyone who takes lipitor for cholesterol had any side effects like pains in the upper arm?
I have been takeing Lipitor for over a year now and in the last two months i have had cramping and severe pain in my upper arm muscles.

A: I have never taken Lipitor but I know of several people who have and they did have problems with muscle pain. The landlord of one of my uncles has a relative who got fibromyalgia because of the Lipitor. Because of how severe this pain is I would recommend getting in touch with your doctor to let them know what's going on so that they can evaluate the situation further to see what they say.

Q: What are the cellular components of lipitor?
Can you show me a picture of the molecule and cellular parts involved? Thanks

A: This web site has a diagram of the atorvastatin molecule. http://www.rxlist.com/lipitor-drug.htm

Q: Does any body know of Alternative remedies for high cholesterol? I really don't want to have to take Lipitor
I am a firm beliver in natural remidies.I have heard a lot of bad things about lipitor like muscle problems ect. I need to lower my cholesterol but don't want to damage my body to do it.

A: There are many things one can do naturally to lower their cholesterol- the most effective and healthiest of which are a vegetarian diet, regular exercise, and supplements of niacin and Vitamin C. It is also important to consume plenty of fiber (fruits, vegetables and whole grains- not pills or powders!) and fresh juices. Carrot juice has been seen to be very effective at lowering cholesterol.

Q: Why does the instructions for Lipitor say "do not cut" the tablets?
My dosage has been reduced to half and i want to use up the ones I already have. The instructions are from the pharmacy. I have been unable to find documentation that Lipitor is "Time-Release." Please note authorization source, if it is so.

A: they are time release tablets, suggest that if your dose has been halved, take one of the old ones every other day until you use them up, do not cut them, or they can make you ill by flooding the system too quickly.
