Q: How do the hormones in nuvaring work? what does it do to my body?
I have just started using nuvaring, and i was wondering what the hormones do to my body to prevent pregnancy? I have heard of two different types of birth control, the type that stops you from releasing an egg, and another kind that stops the egg from attaching to your uterus. I have looked over all my info and on the website and nothing tells me the actual process that happens. Please only answer this question if you know the answer. Thank you! :)

A: From my understanding, the nuvaring is NOT an IUD (inter-uterine device) and does obstruct a fertilized egg from attaching. It's just a vehile in which a month's supply of hormone's is released into your body. Kinda like a one-stop for monthly birthcontrol. No pills, no weekly patch. But unlike the shot, if you begin to experience adverse symptoms/reactions, it can be removed. As with depo-shot, you have to ride it out and deal.

Q: How long after nuvaring out should period start?
I took my nuvaring out on the 21st and I still have had no period...I am worried. I have had nuvaring for 3 months everytime my period came within a day of taking out the ring. Should I be worried about being pregnant?

A: for the first girl who answered this: you can't really take what people say on here about pregnancy while on nuvaring to heart. they may have used it improperly, it may not have been stored correctly, may have fallen out etc. Nuvaring is AS effective as the pill: 99% As for periods, you should get it within a couple days of removal. I would say if you dont get it by tomorrow, take a pregnancy test just to check. If it's negative then you can relax. Your body might just be getting used to the ring still. When I first went on the pill I was that way, sometimes I would get no period at all between packs. good luck, I'm sure it's nothing hun.

Q: How do you know your Nuvaring has been inserted properly?
I just got a prescription for Nuvaring and put it in on Sunday. Monday I felt up in there and it's just sitting there sideways. I can feel it easily with my fingers and I can't push it back. Is this an issue or does it matter? I would really like to know but nobody's answered yet? Help please, from someone who uses Nuvaring?

A: It doesn't matter where it's at, just push it up as far as you can and it will adjust itself to where it needs to be. As long as it's comfortable for you, the position doesn't matter.

Q: How long after stopping the nuvaring can you get pregnant?
My husband and i have decided to try for baby number 2 :) and i have been on the nuvaring for about a year and a half.

A: It all depends on your body. For some women it could take weeks to months to even a full years. My advice? Just enjoy sex for the next 6 months and if no pregnancy, start to chart your ovulation/basal temperature/etc.

A: In 2 hours. It says so on the back of the box and my doctor told me. Nuvaring works perfectly. I’m using it for about 3 years, never got pregnant.

Q: How many women have used the NuvaRing with success?
I need to switch from birth control pills to another alternative (I'm ALWAYS forgetting to take them every day). I went to the doctor and she suggested the OthroEvra patch. However, this is the most dangerous type of birth control for me, since I'm around smokers a lot. I've been leaning towards using the NuvaRing. How many of you have used it? What do you have to say about it? And if you haven't used it, what are some non-pill contreceptives that you would suggest? Thanks!

A: I use the ring and have since sept 2006. I love it. Go on their web site and they will send you a timer that will beep when it is time to put a new one in or take it out. Make sure your hands are clean. I usually run warm water over it before I insert it. It can be taken out for up to 3 hours if your man prefers. I leave it in and neither one of us notice it. It is so easy!!! The only draw back is that I pay $30 per month after insurance. I think on the site they have a first month free deal. Check it out. It is a great resource. Also placement is easy. I just slide it in. It can even be at the opening and you will still be protected. I also only bleed for about 3 days. Very awesome! Good luck and I hope this helps.

Q: Can the nuvaring prevent me from losing weight?
I began watching what I eat and exercising 3 times a week and I lost ten pounds. I started nuvaring 4 weeks ago and have actually been exercising 6 days a week but haven't been able to even lose 1 more pound. Could this be due to nuvaring? If so, if I stop nuvaring and go back to the pill, how soon will it be before my body will start responding to the exercise I'm doing and lose a few pounds?

Q: How long did it take you to become pregnant after discontinuing using the Nuvaring?

A: I stopped the Nuva Ring after 2 years of being on it, and this is our 7th cycle ttc and hoping that it will happen soon!

Q: How soon after you take out the nuvaring can a girl get pregnant?
My girlfriend uses the nuvaring and took it out when she was supposed to and got her period. She was supposed to put the new one in three days ago and hasn't yet. Can she get pregnant right away or are the hormones that the ring releases still working for a couple of more days after she is finished with her period?

A: sweetie women can get pregnant on them, so i would say she can definitely get pregnant with it out. good luck and best wishes

I want to know this for future reference so that I have an idea of when it's a good time to discontinue use of the nuvaring. Thank you in advance!

A: After I discontinued use of the Nuvaring, my cycles went haywire. I was bleeding every two weeks (one week of period, one week off). Then I didn't have a period for almost two months. I actually went back on birth control pills to straighten things out. After I stopped taking the pill, I got pregnant the first month. Every woman is different, some get pregnant right away and others may experience a temporary delay in fertility for six months or more. You are more likely to have difficulty if you experienced irregular cycles and the like prior to using the nuvaring. Just be prepared to get pregnant right away or try for a long time. Good luck!

Q: Will my period start after I remove NuvaRing if I used the quick start method?
I started on the nuvaring a week ago and my period normally starts on the 3rd of the month. Since I started using the quick start method I believe I should start my period once I remove the ring. I am going on vacation on the 3rd and of course would prefer that it would happen this way. quick start method is when you start the nuvaring regardless of where you are in your cycle.

A: I don't know what the quick start method is, but if you've only been on the NuvaRing for a week, it isn't completely effective yet. You'll probably get your period whenever you normally would.

Q: How common is weight gain on NuvaRing?
I went on NuvaRing a few months ago. I'm fairly certain it is the reason I have gained a few pounds. I am wondering if water weight will go away once your body is used to the contraceptive? I've heard a lot about weight gain on many kinds of contraceptives, but nothing about whether or not the gained weight will stay. Of course diet and exercise can help (along with drinking plenty of fluids), but is there anything else you can do to get rid of water weight? So far, that is the only complaint I have about NuvaRing. I HATE gaining weight.

A: The water weight most likely wont go when your body gets used to the NuvaRing. The weight you gain will stay there with or without the contraceptive in place. There is very little you can do to get rid of the fluid you are retaining at the moment, as the NuvaRing doesnt have the ability to generate fluid loss from your body, it only acts as a local contraceptive. There is a pill out at the moment which doesnt cause people to put on weight nor retain fluid. Q: Is it possible your boyfriend can push your nuvaring further in?
My boyfriend is a bit larger than most and I'm worried that he will push my nuvaring in further and I won't be able to remove it or that it'll hurt me if he does hit it. Is this possible?

A: No its not possible for your bf to push it further in. It's a rule for our body to pull out every foreign object by the means of lubrication, fluid etc. Have you noticed nothing can stick in your eye. Whenever it happens, your tear glands produce tear to wash it out. Similar is the case with your uterus, your ring is half insterted in the opening of your uterus and nothing can be penetrated further in.

Q: How long after sex would it be safe to remove the nuvaring?
I've been on the nuvaring for about 17 days now & the last time I had sex was 3 or 4 days ago. I find the nuvaring to be very uncomfortable & I would like to know when I can remove it completely. I don't plan to continue on with this method of birth control and I don't plan to have sex again until I am on another type. I'm just wondering if it's safe to remove it earlier than after 3 weeks.

A: I didn't like it either. You can remove it before the 3 weeks are up but it will cause you to start your period. Also, you would have the first month on your new method, when you should use another method because you won't be fully protected.

Q: What are the chances of getting pregnant while on Nuvaring?
My friend and I both use nuvaring for birth control. She just found out she was pregnant and I'm really scared now. Are there many stories of this?

A: It's 99% effective against pregnancy, just like all the other birth controls out there. There is always the chance of getting pregnant while on bc, it happens all the time! Use condoms as well to be 100% sure!
