Q: Is it ok to take metoprolol and benicar at the same time?
I'm currently taking 25mg of metoprolol, and my doctor put me on benicar. I'm suppose to wean off the metoprolol while starting the benicar. they are both for high blood pressure.
A: well, you can get an adverse reaction by lowering too much your blood presure. dont take both at the same time. and of course, if you are taking 25mg of metoprolol, and (let say) 25 mg of benicar, it willbe 50mg, the double of your dose. It can lead to side effects, bad ones. so dont take the risk
Q: Has anyone suffered sexual side effects from Lisinopril or Benicar?
If so do you know of a different BP med that didnt cause it?
A: no.i am on lisinopril and the only side effect that i have experienced is a horrible dry cough.i have been on it for 6 months and i went to my dr. last week for a follow up visit and told her of this .she is a firm believer that the dry cough is a side effect from lisinopril.she suggested that i go back in two months for a follow up visit because my bronchitis kicked in and i am now taking promethazine vc/with codeine every 4 hours as well as zithromax.
Q: I was curious if anyone takes Benicar for high blood pressure and uses a tanning bed?
I am wanting to know if there is any serious side effects of using a tanning bed while taking Benicar. I am doing some research on it.
A: My Mom recently started taking it and got a horrible rash all over her arms after being in the sun, her doctor said it was a side effect from the Benicar. She had to switch to Adican (sp) Hope this helps.
Q: When someone takes Benicar for High Blood Pressure, do they have to take it for the rest of their lives?
I always hear that when people take meds for their blood pressure, they have to continue taking it inevitably.
A: People with high blood pressure, or hypertension, generally need to take something to have normal pressure all of their lives, the exception being when a cause such as obesity is found and reversed. This has nothing to do with Benicar, however. You can use whatever you like that works and is safe. But the odds are that you'll always have high blood pressure if you do now.
Q: Will light headiness feeling go away when taking Benicar HCT for high blood pressure?
I just started taking the drug this week for high blood pressure. The side effect is mild but when I get up out of a chair, I feel lightheaded. It only last for a minute or less.
A: It might not.
Talk to your doctor about your side effects. There are plenty of types of blood pressure medication and you might need to have yours changed.
Q: Does anyone know how to taper off of Lipitor and Benicar?
As I get older and watch the decay of my parents and others that are older than I, I slowly realize that getting much older is really not a very good goal. So, I think that combating the various conditions of old age, like high cholesterol and high blood pressure, is really a poor way to spend ones money.
How do you taper off of these medications?
A: There is no need to tapper down Benicar or Lipitor. If you stop benicar the High blood pressure may cause end organ damage (morbidity) and a complication like stroke, heart disease renal disease or Other increasing mortality at early age. Please read about FRAMINGHAM study. Lipitor and other statin are medications that control an enzyme that act producing cholesterol. As is well known, Cholesterol is either produced or ingested in the daily diet. It is been prove in multiple studies the benefit of having a low cholesterol- LDL and triglycerides in the decrease of vascular events like stroke, hearts disease and complications of which is hardening of the vascular system. All this diseases are related to aging and also because of multiple external, and inherited risk factors. How you can avoid these,exercising, having and excellent diet, free of cholesterol, free of smoking, drugs, stress, having a perfect genetic make up. But this is not a perfect life nor a perfect world, human body is not perfect.
If you still younger start changing your life for the years to come. We can not scape aging, at least for now until research find the fountain of youth.
Q: Is Benicar an effective high blood pressure drug?
Would it work for someone with 152/110 blood pressure?
A: Yes, it is. It is an effective vasodilator. However, it is very expensive, and there are more affordable choices for blood pressure that high.
Q: Is the medication Benicar a beta blocker?
I am on several blood pressure medications and I have heard that a beta blocker can lower your sex drive. I am having a problem with this and am trying to find out which medication is causing the problem.
A: I think it is and yes it can do this. Have a word with your Dr. There are alternative treatments which do not have this effect.
Q: Has anyone suffered from brain fog or spaced out while taking benicar?
And are you still taking it? my doctor want take me off and its driving me nuts!

Q: My husband takes Benicar HCT for high bp-he's recently lost 28 lbs and his bp has gone down drastically 106/61
He has experienced light-headedness and dizziness, should he continue to take Benicar? We will call the Dr. next week, but would just stopping him cold today be harmeful?
A: The best advice I can give is to NEVER stop a medication prescribed by a physician without first speaking with the doctor or his/her nurse. They might want him to continue with the medication in lower doses or can prescribe him something else. His BP has lowered b/c of his diet but also b/c of the medication. If he stops the medication too quickly there could be harmful side effects. I would call your doctor first thing tomorrow and address your concerns with him/her before doing anything else. My dad got dizzy on his first BP meds and the doctor simply switched him to a lower dose and he has been doing great. Good luck!

Q: What is the generic for Benicar?
My doc prescribed me Benicar and I'm trying to find the generic for it. I was told there was not a generic for the diuretic Benicar but there was one for the olmesartan medoxomil. Can anyone tell me what that is? I have gone to 2 pharmacies and they don't have it.
A: Benicar is olmesartan medoxomil. In the USA is it protected by patent and will not be available as a generic until 2016. However if cost is an issue, return to your physician and let him/her know that, and you will get a script for another ARB (angiotensin II receptor blocker) that is generic.
