Q: How long do you have to wait before switching from Etogesic to Deramaxx?
My dog used to take Deramaxx, but we decided to try Etogesic. The Etogesic has had no effect on her. I'm waiting to hear back from the vet, but wondered if anyone knew how long you had to wait before restarting her back on Deramaxx.
A: The length of the washout period will vary, depending upon the patient’s condition and other drugs involved. You vet will give you the best advice, but it is usally 7-14 days....to many factors involved.
Q: Has anyone given Deramaxx to their pet, and he/she developed incontinence?
If you have had this problem, did the situation improve after stopping the use of Deramaxx?
A: I have put hundreds of animals on deramaxx and never had anyone report incontinence.
If your animal is lame from a neurological disease rather than an orthopaedic disease, it could be due to a progression of the neuro symptoms.
Rather than taking him off of the deramaxx, talk to your vet about other causes: bladder infection, bladder stones, hormonal, etc.
Q: Dog owners who have pets taking Deramaxx for arthritis, what kind of blood work does your dog have?
my 171/2 year old lab has been taking Deramaxx for 6 weeks prior he was taking Remadyl for 4 weeks he has a vet appt this week.they are doing blood work for his liver but being on deramaxx now shouldnt that include kidney test also?
A: what the will do is a general health panel that will test all their kidney, liver, heart and everything else.
they will also do a complete blood count to make sure that her white cells and platlets show that everything is working fine.
They willdraw around 5-10 cc of blood depending on what vet you take your dog to.
I used to do them all the time.
Q: Does anyone know of a dog that has survived a Deramaxx overdose?
My dog took about 20 pills and had them in his stomach for 3 to 4 hours before we knew about it. He also had a bunch of trash in his stomach such as paper towl and coffee filters. My question is does anyone know if a dog could survive in these circumstances and if so what sort of permant organ problems are possible.
A: My sisters dog died from a Deramaxx overdose.
The cats knocked the pill bottle off the top of the cabinet. One of her dogs ate it.
Dog died of perforated stomach even though she was being treated by a vet.
Q: has anyone had a dog on remadyl or deramaxx?
i have a 171/2 year old dog.i had him on a natural arthritis treatment, about 4 weeks ago he got really bad, back legs stiff, rear paws turned under, dragging when he walks. i carry him up and down stairs to use bathroom. he is very alert and has a excellant appetite.his symptoms got really bad within a matter of 2 weeks, the vet put him on remadyl he has been on it for 3 weeks at first he did really weel but this past week he didnt do so good the vet said i could try deramaxx at this point i dont know what to do.
A: Try the 2nd med. Rimadyl works for some, not for other; works for a while and then it is not enough.
There is a new pan med out if the Dema..(never could spell that!) doesn't do it.
It is called Previcox.
The biggest gun in the non-narcotic pain meds is Banamine. Usually used in large animals, it is an excellent choice for these very old dogs in intractable pain. Kept a shephard/husky mix I knew going until he was 20 and without it, he couldn't get to his feet from the age 15/16 .
You are not going to "naturally" cure advancing arthritis. At his age, make him as comfortable as possible. Go to the drugs.
Q: Can I give 100mg instead of 25mg of Deramaxx for pets?
Can I give 100mg once instead of giving 25mg 4 times a day?
A: Deramaxx has a lot of side effects. Changing the dose can most likey be a bad thing. You can read more about deramaxx.
Q: Where can I find deramaxx for dogs without a prescription?
A: you must have a prescrition from a vet sorry .. my dog is on that
Q: Deramaxx isn't working for my dog, is there any hope for her?
My 11 year old Rottweiler, Belle, has been on 75mg of Deramaxx for about 2 months, and it just isn't working for her. In fact, last night she was limping so badly, she could barely walk.
Are there other medications out there for her, something that is stronger? I sure would hate to lose my dog because of arthritis, she's such a happy and sweet animal.
Can anyone give me help?
A: Talk to your vet about adding tramadol or gabapentin to the deramaxx. Sometimes a different NSAID maybe used but not added. There needs to be a two week washout peroid when NSAID's are changed. Also make sure that you are feeding her a good quality meat based diet and that she isn't overweight. Adding glucosime and chondroitin with a little vitamin C may help with some of the inflammation. Talk to your vet as there are more products out there that address pain issues in older dogs.
Q: Has anyones dog here been prescribed Deramaxx?
My 11 year old Rottweiler mix was just prescribed Deramaxx today. Her vet told me that she has arthritis in her lower back and one of her elbows.
I'm just curious how well it's worked for other dogs.
Thanks.
A: I have a male Doberman Pinscher that has been on Deramaxx for about 3 years now and has been doing fine on them.
He is suppose to take 1/2 tab of 100mg. pill 2 times a day, but in the summer he takes it a lot less than that.
Q: anyone have their dog on Deramaxx?
I have had my 13 yr old large breed dog on this for over a year. He seems to be doing very well on it, but I am concerned about health risks. Anyone have any comments on how their dog reacted to it?
A: have you tried arthrogen i like it better for healing the joints..where deramaxx and rimadyl just mask the symptoms..then use the rimadyl/or deramaxx on bad days....it will be less stress on the liver etc... I have seen dogs on both but I have heard that Rimadyl is better... good luck... smile
Q: My 11 y.o staffy is on Deramaxx, is there any reason I can't give her my Voltaren or Celebrex ???
She has a 2" hard lump around her ribs and within days of this coming up (overnight) she started limping with her hind leg on the same side as the lump. Vet aspirated and put her on Deramaxx 50mg per day. Couldn't find anything without further tests which would cost $500 and she said outcome didn't look good anyway, then surgery would be $$$ more if this was even possible. Decided to treat pallatively as her life expectancy is a further year or two without any health problems. Bought Deramaxx today for the next 40 days (50mg on alternate days) but I was wondering if there was any reason she can't be given Voltaren or Celebrex (which I understand is a Cox-2) for financial reasons ??? I have also started her on Glucosamine sulfate 1000mg. I can't find anywhere in Australia that sells dog medications over the internet at a reduced price and American websites have expensive shipping costs. Thanks in advance.
A: FIrst off Deramaxx is a non-steroid which is given to dogs some of the side effect's are: Vomiting
Change in bowel movements such as diarrhea or change in stool color
Change in drinking or urination
Decrease in appetite
Change in behavior, such as depression or restlessness I wouldn't worry to much about this drug as I would others that are on the market. However, I would check with your vet about the knots that have been found. You can have your Vet do blood values (bloodwork) on you pet also to rule out a lot of issues. He/she should have the blood work done to check the kidney's & liver while on non-steroids anyway.
Q: what is in the medication called deramaxx? it is for dogs.?
what are the side affects? why is it given? what is the dosage?
A: Deramaxx is given to help control chronic osteoarthritis, which is the most common cause of chronic pain in dogs. It can also be given to help control pain and inflammation after orthopedic (bone) surgery. It is a prescription strength NSAID (like aspirin or ibuprofen for humans). Like all drugs of its class, it can cause some side effects like vomiting, diarrhea, increase in drinking and/or urination, and a decrease in appetite. Your vet will be able to weigh the advantages of the drug against the possible side effects to determine if Deramaxx is right for your dog. As for dosage, talk to your vetrinarian as they will be able to prescribe based on the dog's weight and individual problem.
Q: can a dog die from mixing human aspirin and deramaxx?
A: ummmm. Too much of anything can kill a dog. Do not mix these. If you did, you need to call a vet right now.
Q: DERAMAXX : its a pain medication for dogs. would it be bad for a human to take? (like how humans take ketamine?
A: I don't know why Michael Jackson took so much of it. He was in so much pain
Q: Dog just got a presciption for arthritis-Deramaxx 75mg- anything comparable @ lower cost??
A: Deramaxx and aspirin are both classes of medication known as NSAIDs.
While aspirin is cheaper, for the dosage of aspirin that would work as well as deramaxx does, there's a higher chance of liver failure.
Example: Our 92lb dog would have to be on over 1000 mg of aspirin a day to manage his arthritis compared to just 75mg of deramaxx.
If your dog has arthritis you can also try holistic therapies like massage, water therapy, acupuncture, etc though I'm not sure if that would be any cheaper.
