Q: 7 Month old and Inhaler?
My son was just prescribed and Flovent HFA inhaler. I was told inhalers are not a good idea for little ones and should get an allergy test done first.
I was just looking for opinions from other moms, if anyone has had to give there young ones an inhaler
A: I don't have a child with asthma, but I work around pediatricians and in an ER setting where we treat children for asthma attacks. It's my understanding that it is nearly impossible to diagnose asthma in a child so young, and that the current best diagnostic tools aren't of much use until they are much closer to 5 or 6. The pediatricians I work with don't use long term inhalent therapy like the Flovent as a rule. They also always do allergy testing, because that is one of the easiest things to start controlling and will often work better. And they say that most children, even the wheezy babies, will outgrow it by their third birthdays. So before I dosed one of my babies with a Flovent, I think I'd want some allergy testing done first. And then, I'd want to see a specialist. It may be your son does actually have asthma, and it would benefit from an inhaler- but I wouldn't automatically use it as a first line of treatment before I eliminated other things first.

A: My small one has many respiratory issues including asthma and allergies. She was prescribed flovent, flonase, and albuteral just to get her symptoms under control. Two of those are inhalers. She had a tube that connects to the inhaler and has a mouth piece on it so all she has to do is breathe as the medicine disperse into the air inside the tube. If your son has not got one, I'd look into it. In the mean time, it is recommended to hold the inhaler a bit away from the mouth, as discharging it into the mouth lets most of the medicine be ingested vice inhaled.
Just what my kiddo has been doing since she was about 2. She is 4 now and an old pro at it.
Q: Weight gain, asthma inhaler?
take a flovent preventer inhaler. I've read up on it and it says weight gain is a possible side effect. I haven't gained weight, I don't think, but I have gained fat. My lower stomach has fat in it. I want it away! I've tried crunches, leg lifts, stationary bike and nothing seems to work. I've burned about 100 calories on the stationary bike today, which isn't much. I don't want to lose much weight because I'm already on the verge of being underweight. My ribs show kinda, so I don't want to lose much weight. But on the other hand, I don't wanna gain any weight at all. I tried eating lettuce, it has a 'negative' calorie value. So I'll eat that and drink water. Apples have low calories too, would this help me lose the fat? Would crunches and leg lifts help? Or would the fat just stay. Thanks a ton(:
btw - I'm 5'0 (60 inches) and 85 pounds, my bmi is 16.6
A: You can lose this extra fat but it sounds like you are pretty slim as it is. Crunches and leg lifts are great but your body will get use to doing them. Try doing crunches while moving your legs like you are riding a bike. Try raising your right elbow to touch your left knee while doing crunches and then change to the other elbow and knee.
This is hard but yields great results in a flatter stomach:
Do this on a hardwood floor.
Get two blankets. Fold both in half or more for comfort. Kneel on one.
Take the other blanket in your hands and lean forward on your knees until the other blanket touches the floor (like you are scrubbing the floor). Slowly slide your hands forward on the floor until most of your weight is on your hands. Go forward slowly until you start to feel your stomach tighten up. Slowly use your stomach muscles to pull ypu back to the start position. Repeat this same exercise until you can almost lay flat on your stomach and still be able to pull yourself back up to the start position.

Q: Is it okay to used my expired inhaler?
It just expired August 2009. It's flovent.
It mite need more to have the full effect so please tell me if it does and how many puffs. Thanks. :)
A: I would not advise using an expired inhaler. Usually the pharmacy will note the inhaler to become expired a year from purchase. The reason is at about this point the chemical components tend to change, and this makes the medicine less effective. Technically, at this point, there's no guarantee what you are putting into your body.
If you've used an expired inhaler, you may have noticed it tastes funny too, like rotten mints. If you use an inhaler and it tastes funny, chances are it's expired and you should jettison it. Newer inhalers should also have expiration dates on them.
So, to answer your question: No! It is not ok to use an expired inhaler!
Q: does flovent HFA is steriod?
I am asthmatic-If I take steriod my face swells and I also gain weight. I am taking flovent HFA 220 mcg inhaler? can you please tell me whether this has steriod and make one gain weight? Aslo please tell me if albuterol inhaler has steriod in it? did anybody gained weight after using flovent? thankyou
A: Flovent is not the same as albuterol. Albuterol is a bronchodilator. Flovent is a corticosteroid. It is not the same as the steroids that are used for muscle building. Yes corticosteroids are known to cause people to gain weight but those effects are very very minimal. Not everyone encounters this side effect from it but a few do.
Q: Does Singulair actually work?
i have a plethora of new medicines i want to know if they actually work.
along with the Flovent inhaler.
A: I hear that they work quite wonderfully. I have not received any complaints from my patients, and their asthma attacks have decreased.
Q: could my new corticosteroid inhaler be causing my face to blow up?
Hi I was diagnosed with asthma. It got worse so I sought treatment. I was given Flovent. I really liked Flovent. After a week, my symptoms improved and I have been excersizing more. But then I noticed my face getting fat. I already have a very heavy round face for my size. I am perplexed that the doctor would give me a steroid inhaler if he knew my face could blow up, because I told him one of the reasons I need an inhaler is because I am gaining weight through lack of exercise. If my inhaler is causing a fat face, do you think that I could request a different similarly effective inhaler that would reduce my symptoms? What inhaler would be good-- I have to request one on the phone because I am no longer insured. It feels a shame, because I like this inhaler. If I continue to use it, will my fat face eventually go away? Could I become permanently disfigured? Thank you.
A: Unfortunately, that's a common side effect from steriods. They make your body retain water. Just call the nurse at the clinic where you went and tell her what's going on, and ask if she'll ask the doc to prescribe a different one. Maybe he can give you one that works as well with less unwanted side effects or or maybe you can just use this one when your asthma symptoms are more severe, instead of routinely. Those symptoms won't resolve until you decrease or stop taking the steriod but if you stop it the swelling will go down in a few days. You won't be permanently disfigured.
Q: Panic attack from inhaler?
It seems, that every time i start my long lasting inhaler, i get panic attacks. It is Flovent HFA. Any good answers? and when i take my instant inhaler (the one that has adrenaline or a form of it i think) i dont get any of the nasty side effects of this one...
A: your prolly havnming an allergic reaction to it i would go to thw doctor and tell them whats happening they can perscribe you something else or tell you to stop taking it.. for now i suggest just taking the fast acting one.. and its no adrenaline its steroids : ) hope i helped
Q: Kitty with asthma - Should I put her to sleep?
We have had our kitty Peanut for about a year and a half now. In December she was diagnosed with asthma. She had a severe asthma episode and we took her to the vet where they treated her with Theopylline, Predinisone, and put her in an oxygen tank. In April she was sick again. We have had her on Flovent steroid inhaler ever since. Now this week she is sick again. I have increased her Flovent and put her back on Theophylline and also added the Albuterol inhaler. Nothing is helping. She has raspy breathing and keeps coughing. I don't know if I should put her to sleep or keep taking her back to the vet. They expect that she will have this condition forever. We love her to death but this is not fair to her to be sick like this, not to mention that she is deathly afraid of going to the vet, which we are about to leave for shortly. Any help or advice is appreciated. Or anyone who is interested in taking her that has experience with an asthmatic cat, let me know. Thanks.
A: Im amazed that so many people posted with, "Nooo!"
As a pet owner, you must realise that you cannot be selfish in your wants. Although you wish she didn't have the condition- she does. You don't want to put her to sleep- but the thought HAS crossed your mind.
I would not put her to sleep yet- but if it is only getting worse, I would put her out of her misery. Do it because you love her, and don't want her in pain. Do it because she's in pain, and her quality of life is poor. DO NOT do it because it costs too much money, etc. In that case, I would adopt her out.
Just some things to think about.
Q: Can someone help me convert a perscription fro 10 mg US to Canadian mcg?
My Veterinarian ordered an inhaler for my dog and it is for 10 mg of Flovent. The Canadian pharmacy has 50, mcg, 100, mcg up to 500 mcg but online it says 1000 mcg equals 1 mg! Help please!
A: the conversion system is universal. meaning its the same wherever u go. 1,000 mcg will equal 1mg in the US, Canada, Africa, China etc. So...10mg of Flovent would be 10,000mcg (if my math is correct). i would contact the pharmacy. They should be able to give you what u need..if not recommend an equivalent.
Q: Is whey protein safe to use if i'm a 14 year old boy and i am on an asthma medicine called flovent?
I'm a 14 year old male and i'm a freshman in high school. I am trying to build muscle mass, and one of my friends just recently told me about using whey protein. I went to a supplemental website that carried a brand of whey protein, and in the description it said to consult a doctor before purchase, and use of this item. If I am an asthma patient and i'm on an inhaler medicine from Glaxo Smith Cline called Flovent, will this effect me at all, or be harmful in any way, or is it safe???
A: Yes, it is basically just protein intake like you eat everyday in natural foods even if you are a vegetarian
Q: Does the medicine for asthma called "Flovent" With steroids in cause infertility in men?
My Husband and I are trying to concieve but he has been using his reliever or inhaler 3 times a day and the doctor put him now on Flovent. I really would like some information regarding his medication before I let him take it. I would love to have a kid.
Flovent has a steroid in it and I pretty much know the side affects of steroids but I don't know if the same side affects are present in this drug as well regarding infertility.
Please give me just a little information regarding this.
I DO NOT WANT A COPY AND PASTE.. I want the real answer from a real person. Thank you all-
If anyone knows of anything healthy or with herbs that will help as well.. please tell me..
or some great links for healthy medications rather then the over the counter stuff.
Thank you all-
A: 1) There are no doctors on this site.
2) Don't ask people here.
3) Why would you think that people actually KNOW that Flovent causes infertility...
4) We can't give you any freakin' answer because you required no copy and paste .. People aren't that smart here!
5) GO ASK A DOCTOR!
Q: Taking prescription meds on airplane ?
My husband will be flying to Atlanta in the morning. Never crossed our minds till tonight whether or not he will be allowed his albuterol and flovent inhalers. As you may know or not, inhalers are boxed from the manufacturer and the pharmacy label goes on the box. We no longer have the boxes. The canisters are marked with what they are and who makes them, he just doenst have documentation stating they belong to him. Anyone flown with this same situation ?
A: I always pack mine in my checked luggage and haven't had any problems. I do however always get a list of my medications from my doctor before I fly to keep on my person. With the war on drug it is just a good idea to make sure you are on the up and up at all times. That way you don't get held up at security.
Since you cannot get anything from the doctor,it might be a good idea to go by the pharmacy that sold you the inhaler and ask them for some sort of verification.
Good Luck,have a safe trip
