Q: Mirena????
does anyone know if the birth control mirena is for a FACT and iud. my insurance covers iuds. i was wondering if maybe it was some other form . hope that makes sence. and... can you still breastfeed with mirena or does it dry you up? anyone else too busy to remember the frikin pill??
A: Yep, I kept forgetting to take the pill too and it made me feel depressed and fat. I got my Mirena last year and it is the best!! It is definitely an IUD (said so on the box!). You have it inserted by your doctor, I just took some ibuprofen beforehand and it didn't really hurt. I had some bad cramping for about 2 days afterwards and some bleeding on and off for about 6 weeks but after that my periods got shorter and lighter - then disappeared! It is so fantastic not having periods anymore.
As far as I know the Mirena works on progesterone and the progesterone acts locally. If you were on the mini-pill (progesterone only pill - which I hated by the way) you could breastfeed, I'm sure the Mirena is safe but check with your doc.
The main piece of advice I'd have, if you're considering it, is to give it a few months to settle. Some people want it taken out after a few weeks but stick with it, it's worth it. Some people do end up unhappy with it, but it's pretty rare.
Q: mirena????
I had my mirena put in today. what can i expect as far as weight issues go? I gained weight while i was on the YAZ. Can i expect to start losing it now?
A: I didn't have any issues with weight before getting Mirena. I do know I have gained or lost anything I have stayed the same in the year I have had it.
Q: MiReNa..............?
is it worth it?anyone that has had it...how long did u bleed after getting it put in?
im getting it the day b4 i leave to see my husband for a week & i dont want to be bleeding :(
A: I have had the Mirena for over a year. Didn't bleed hardly at all when I got it. Just some cramping, compared to having a baby, it was NOTHING! :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Mirena. I have only had one period and it was so light I almost didn't even realize I was having one. I took the pill for like ten years. After my son, we were pretty sure we didn't want anymore children and I just couldn't remember to take the pill everyday anymore. Mom brain I guess! So I would say the Mirena is totally worth it and I would do it again. I also have at least 5 friends that have it, they love it as well.
Q: How is the birthcontrol Mirena removed and does it hurt?
I am on the Mirena method of BC and it has side effects. Bad back pain and cramping all the time!! I was wondering how is it removed and does the doctor have to remove it?
A: Yes, the doctor needs to remove it. However removal is pretty darned easy. They just pull it out. It takes about 5 seconds, if that.
Q: How much do you have to pay for Mirena if I have Tricare insurance?
My husband is active duty. We are stationed on Fort Riley. I asked before if Tricare offered Mirena. You said yes, but how much is it? Being in the military, we dont have to pay for healthcare or prescriptions as we know (on post), but does that mean I get Mirena for free too?
A: If you have tricare prime it should be covered.
Q: How long does spotting occur after placement of the Mirena?
I got the Mirena in late April and i am still spotting. Is this normal and if so how much longer am i gonna b spotting? Is it ok to have sex during this? I really need some opinions and advice from Mirena users. Thank you.
Thank you all for your answers. They are all such good answers i cant figure out witch one should be best answer so i am going to let the public decide.
A: i have the mirena and i love it. at first i hated it with all the spotting and irregularity but if you are like me eventually you will love it. i havent had a period in almost 2 1/2 years. i dont bleed but i can tell when i should be. sometimes my breast are a little tender and i have a little bloating - but not having to worry about tampons - its amazing
the spotting lasted about 4 months with me and sometimes i will bleed after having sex but other than that everything is great
good luck
Q: How long after mirena removal did you get pregnant?
I am getting my mirena removed this coming Tuesday. We will track my cycle for 2-3 months and then start trying for a girl :)
How long did it take you to get pregnant after you had your mirena removed?
A: I had my mirena taken out in December I didnt ovulate untill february, and periods started then 15 days later. So this is our 5 month of trying, an no luck yet.
Q: How long after your Mirena IUD was removed did you get pregnant?
I know the mirena website says you go back to normal as if you never had it, but I want to know about you Mirena users. How long did it take you personally to get pregnant once it was out?
A: We got pregnant on our first attempt after having it taken out!
Good luck!
Q: Pregnancy after Mirena: How quickly did your cycle come back?
I am getting my Mirena IUD out on December 5th. We're hoping to start trying for kids soon :) Problem with planning is I have had no idea when I'm ovulating for the past seven months. How quickly did your cycle come back to normal?
A: My period came two weeks after I had my Mirena pulled and was right on schedule with when it came before I had the IUD inserted. However I have been ttc for 6 months since then with no luck. It turns out I don't ovulate on my own anymore (I have 1 child so I know I worked before). My OB said he has noticed that there seems to be a link between women who have had the Mirena in for more than a year and having problems ovulating after it is removed. This is just his observation in his personal practice, but he always does a progesterone serum test 7 days after a women is suppose to ovulate normally if she hasn't concieved within 6 months of having the Mirena removed. This test tells him whether the women ovulated or not, I had mine done at 4 months because he has encountered this issue enough to kind of guess what was going on and he was right. My advice is give it a few months after your cycle resumes and then go push for this test, there is no chance you will conceive if you aren't ovulating. Good luck and many wishes to both of us for a 2010 baby!
Q: How was your experience with Mirena and getting pregnant?
I'm going to get my Mirena IUD out on Sept 23 and I'm just curious to hear stories of others who have had Mirena and decided to get pregnant. I am having mine out for the purpose of becoming pregnant. I just want to know how long it took some people to conceive after having it taken out. I know everyone is different, but I would like to hear some experiences from those who have used the IUD. Thank you.
A: I got my mirena out July 16th and we started trying after my first cycle. My DR told me I would be able to get pregnant 7 days after it was removed, but it was best to wait until after the first cycle. I will let you know how it goes this month...i should be able to test saturday or sunday
**UPDATE-I just got a positive pregnancy test last night. I didn't have periods during the later part of having the Mirena. I got it removed July 16th and had bleeding for 3 days after. My first period came Aug 3rd, I Ovulated August 17th, and I got my positive test just after midnight on the 29th of August. It's just very important to learn about your body and when you might be ovulating and spend lots of time with your significant other during that time :) Good luck
Q: How long after mirena removal can i start ovulating?
I had my mirena removed on oct. 29th, and i have been testing every day since nov 10th to check for ovulation and nothing yet. could this be a sign that i might have infirtility problems? i have had one child and she was concieved while i was on the patch. please help i am loosing my mind! thanks
A: mine was removed in august and i still have not ovulated yet, i have not had the EWCM stringy clear mucous, i am anxiously waiting for this, i have had 2 mirena s and have no children yet! i have had them in total for 9 years and a break of 2 months betwenn them, I think it will take time for the ovulation to restart for some as a GP i spoke to said that the symptoms i was having....vaginal dryness and ovarian cysts caused my body to almost go into menopausal mode and she said that if she were in my position she would have it removed especially as i does take time for fertility to return for some. The reaon i go tthe mirena was it was one of the few that would allow your body to return to normal as soon as it was removed,
Hope your fertility returns to normal soon!
Baby dust to you ....
Q: Is it safe to get pregnant right after getting Mirena removed?
My husband and I are thinking about having another child. I have had Mirena for almost 2 years, but think we would like to have another child in a year or so. Would it be safe to start trying immediately after getting it removed? Just curious, there is still a lot of planning to do.
A: yeah it is save my sister in law got pregnant two weeks after removing it.
she almost due (:
Q: How soon did you get pregnant after removing the mirena?
I just had mine removed last month on the 7th and on the 9th I stared my period. I should get my period by the 6th of this month unless the mirena messed with my cycle. I have been having symptoms of pregnancy but I also know that they could be pms symptoms but I have never had any symptoms of pms before the mirena. So I was just wanting to know how long it took you to get pregnant after you had the mirena removed?
A: I wasn't sure of my cycle after I had Mirena removed so we waited for one period and then the next month I was already pregnant.
Q: How long does it take to concieve after having Mirena IUD surgically removed?
I have had no bleeding or discomfort since the removal. Has anyone had any experience with this? How long did it take you to conceive after your Mirena removal?
A: first, may i ask why you are having it SURGICALLY removed? did your string get lost, and they have to dialate you to remove it? if that were the case, i would imagine you would need to give your body some time to heal, however if it was normally removed, where its just pulled out, then you are supposed to be able to get pregnant in the same amount of time it would take, had you of NEVER been on birth control!
Q: How long to wait to get a non-hormonal coil after removing a Mirena coil?
I had a Mirena coil fitted just under a year ago, which I really like as a form of contraception, but which has caused serious and continuous skin problems ever since!
As a result (and after trying various different methods of sorting out my skin) I am going to have the coil removed, and would like to change to a non-hormonal coil.
How long do I have to wait between having the Mirena removed and getting another fitted?
A: I think 3 months but call your doctor or gynecologist.
