Q: How to properly dissolve a 15 mg tablet of Prevacid tablet for an infant?
Directions say add 4 ml of water in a oral suringe and shake tablet tell it disolves although it doest disolve it leaves a large amount of gritty tablet at the bottom of the suringe and it wont allow it to be ejected from the suringe... how can i properly dissolve it? My sons only 6 months old and has acid reflex. i dont want to put it in a bottle cuz he doesnt always want his bottle...
A: try crushing the pill in smaller pieces before dissolving, it may work better or cut the pill in half and dissolve 1/2 in 4 ml of water and the other half in 4 ml of water. water can't hurt him. good luck!
Q: What are the long term effects of taking prevacid for 2 years?
I take 30 mg of prevacid daily for laryngopharyngeal reflux.
A: Not much at all.
Prevacid belongs in the class of Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs), which are among the safest and best tolerated prescription drugs out there.
Specifically, Prevacid (chemically known as lansoprazole) was first approved by the FDA in 1995, so it's been around for a lot longer than 2 years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lansoprazole
Millions of people have been on 30 mg a day since it first came out, and there has been no major long-term bad effect known to date.
Q: Is it bad if I took a Zantac 150 after taking Prevacid 30mg in the morning?
I usually just take one 30mg tablet every morning, but i stopped for a while bc my prescription ran out and took other acid reducers meanwhile. Today I started it again, but it takes more than a day to fully work so about 10-12 hours later i took a Zantac 150 because my heartburn was bad. Should I be okay?
A: No problem taking both.
Q: How long does someone need to be on prevacid before you see a difference?
My son was just put on it... and was wondering how long he needed to be on it until i knotice a decrease in acid reflex
A: It should work within 24 hours...
PREVACID is a ppi - the strongest reflux drugs we have, so it should do the trick.
If it is not working within a week - see the dr, who may substitute PREVACID for another ppi - or may increase the dose.
Q: Does either Synthroid or Prevacid cause drowsiness after taking them early in the morning?
My Mother takes both of those pills at about 6 a.m. and notes heavy fatigue about 1/2 hour later. Is that a side effect of either drug? Should they be taken at different times?
A: Tell your Mom to be sure and take Synthroid on an empty stomach. I used to set the alarm, two hours early, roll over in bed take the Thyroid tablet I had placed there the night before, and then go back to sleep for two hours. This way I did not take it with food, because the combination of food and Synthroid made me sleepy. Now Prevacid should also be taken before eating, it stops acid in the stomach. I would ask your Druggist about taking them together. It is always wise to ask an expert. Try to get all your prescription filled at the same pharmacy, that way the druggist will note any prescriptions that will interact badly together.
Q: Side effects for missing Prevacid doses?
I missed about 4 or 5 days of my Prevacid. I took a pill today, but have been having bad stomachaches all day.
Any one else have this happen? Any guesses on how long before it works again? I've been on it for several years.
A: i used to be on it too, i missed doses for i think 2 days and i was fine.
i guess a stomachache would be reasonable, but it will go away soon
if it doesn't you may want to call the doctor who prescribed you.
Q: How much Prevacid do you give your baby?
My 7 month, 21 pound son takes the following:
Dissolve 15mg tab in 5 ml water and give 4ml of dissolved solution.
A: My sister's son took .8ml but I don't recall how many mg that was or anything... sorry..
Q: 6 month old with acid reflux and on prevacid?
She still spits up all day long. She does not seem as fussy now that she is on the medicine. Is this normal to still be spitting up so bad and on the medicine? The dr tried Axid at first and then switched to Prevacid. Any advice would be great
It is very common to put a baby on Prevacid. They even make it for babies. She takes a pill that dissolves. I am also nursing so changing formulas would not be in order.
A: My granddaughter and grandson both were diagnosed with acid reflux. They both continued to spit up even with medication (one was on Prevacid and the other is on Zantac). The good news is that my granddaughter is now 1 year and is completely off the medication although she still continues to drink a soy based formula rather than cow's milk. My grandson is almost 6 months old and still spits up quite regularly but does not have the pain and discomfort he had prior to taking the medication. You do need to tell the baby's doctor that she is still spitting up - sometimes it is a trial and error situation with which medication works the best and you may not find one that totally eliminates all the problems. I know that this is stressful and causes you worry but take heart and be patient - things will get better as baby gets older
Q: Are there any interactions between Prevacid and Allegra?
I believe there's some interaction between Allegra and antacids. I was given Prevacid for GERD symptoms but still need Allegra for allergies, didn't have a chance to discuss this with my doc.
A: quick answere is no, if anything it just helps it obsorb into your system. technical answers can be found in medical articles.
Technical answer:
Coadministration with erythromycin has been shown to increase the oral bioavailability of fexofenadine. The proposed mechanism is erythromycin inhibition of the intestinal efflux of fexofenadine via P-glycoprotein transporter. In addition, erythromycin may decrease biliary excretion of fexofenadine. In 24 healthy volunteers, coadministration of fexofenadine 120 mg twice a day and erythromycin 500 mg every 8 hours resulted in a 82% and 109% increase in the steady-state fexofenadine peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and systemic exposure (AUC), respectively, compared to administration of fexofenadine alone. However, no increase in adverse effects or QTc interval were noted. No studies have been performed using clarithromycin or troleandomycin, but similar results are possible given their similarities to erythromycin. Fexofenadine had no effect on the pharmacokinetics of erythromycin.
An in vitro study has recently suggested that a proton pump inhibitor, omeprazole, is a modest substrate of P-glycoprotein. Several studies have shown P-glycoprotein is involved in the absorption and excretion of fexofenadine. Therefore, we examined the effect of fexofenadine on the pharmacokinetics of omeprazole. Eight healthy volunteers participated in this study. They received a single oral dose of 40 mg omeprazole before and after 60 mg fexofenadine (10 doses over 6 days). Blood samplings were performed up to 8 hr after each dosing. Plasma concentrations of omeprazole and its two metabolites were quantified with high-performance liquid chromatography. In addition, the effect of fexofenadine on P-glycoprotein function was examined by flow cytometry using rhodamine 123 and CD56-positive lymphocytes. Comparison of the pharmacokinetic parameters of omeprazole before and after fexofenadine revealed that there were no differences in peak concentration, time to peak concentration, area under the time concentration curve up to 8 hr, and elimination half-life. There were also no differences in these pharmacokinetic parameters for the two metabolites of omeprazole. Flow cytometric analysis revealed that fexofenadine did not inhibit the efflux of rhodamine 123. This study indicated that there was probably no drug interaction between omeprazole and fexofenadine, which might be due to less contribution of P-glycoprotein to omeprazole absorption, insufficient inhibitory effect of fexofenadine on P-glycoprotein, or the involvement of other transporters such as organic anion transporting polypeptides.
(Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) in the same pharmacologic class as omeprazole. )
Q: If your baby is on prevacid what formula do you use?
Just wondering what formula you are using with prevacid for reflux? Are you thickening?
My son has had reflux since the day he was born and is now 6 months. It took along time but he now has the right med and dose. We were using enfamil Ar but I was told the formula and prevacid counteract each other so now were on enfamil premium and I thicken with rice..
We tried goodstart and gentlease and he refuses to drink it..
A: my oldest son Evan was on prevacid for acid reflux and we used nestle great start formula. They have the gentle proteins in it that are easy to digest for baby. The formula did not make my son spit up as much and when you mix the formula there are no bubbles like all the other formula, its smoother and thicker as well instead of watery like the others. After feeding you baby i would suggest propping him/her up in a bouncer, but do not bounce them in it of course. Or set your baby up in your lap for a while for about 45 minutes while there body has enough time to digest it, there for reducing the chance of spit up, and reducing the amount they spit up if they do as well. At night time, try thickening the formula with half a teaspoon of oatmeal cereal, and poke a few extra holes in the top of the nipple for the cereal/formula mixture to go through, but do not make the holes TOO big or the baby will eat faster there for increasing the chances of them spitting up. The cereal in the formula will help them sleep longer at night as well, which is good for mom and dad too, LOL! Good luck, i am a baby expert, i have so much baby knowledge just stuck up in my brain, i have 3 children and one on the way, so i know a lot, feel free to contact me any time with any questions, my email is rileybaby25@yahoo.com and my name is Shannon, Riley is my youngest son BTW! GOOD LUCK FRIEND!
Q: What amount of prevacid is your child taking?
for acid reflex? what millagram and how often? and how old is your child?
mine is 6 months and takes 2 tablets @ 15 mg each... just wondering what yours takes?
and does it help does he or she still spit up
A: When my baby was 5 months old, I think she was on 5ml twice a day. i could be wrong, but from what I remember, it was a high dose. We kept having to up it since she had acid reflux so bad. She outgrew it at 7 months though thank god! We also saw a pediatric gastro doc. Maybe you should see one too. But if you don't see improvement in a week, you might need a stronger dose.
