Q: Taking avodart and want to start a family?
I am taking 1 mg of Avodart every day, to treat an enlarged prostate.Now i am planing to start a family, is it safe even if i am taking avodart or shuld i stop taking avodart, if i shuld stop how long i have to stop for ?have been taking avodart for a year plz help

Exposure of Women-Risk to Male Fetus: Dutasteride is absorbed through the skin. Therefore, women who are pregnant or may be pregnant should not handle AVODART soft gelatin capsules because of the possibility of absorption of dutasteride and the potential risk of a fetal anomaly to a male fetus. In addition, women should use caution whenever handling AVODART soft gelatin capsules. If contact is made with leaking capsules, the contact area should be washed immediately with soap and water.
Sounds like if even the handling of it could be dangerous to pregnancy, the fact that its in your body and therefore most likely your sperm may also impact the viability of the conception.
Of course, asking your doctor is always the first step. There are several other drugs for this condition that may not have the same side effects. You should never just stop a medication for something like that without consulting your doctor because sometimes the side effects of the withdrawal can be quite severe.
Q: is there a way to counteract the negative sexual effects of avodart?
If avodart prevents the conversion of testosterone to DHT , then it must also stop the positive effects of testosterone. What can a person do to eliminate or improve on these negative after effects?
A: Do what I did! Tell your Doctor. Thanks, but NO thanks! I personally am not willing to deal with the side effects. And they are many more than that. So I pee a little more than I want to. I'll deal with it!

A: I assume you are getting checked regularly.It's been six months so you should have another PSA.1.5 is a figure that would(or would have)made many of us elated.Most urologists now start more active treatment when the PSA is 3 and above.Mine is .03-after surgery, hormone treatments and 44 consecutive radiation treatments-I'm in my 5th year of remission.You are on top of things-stay there.

i just saw a commercial for that medication and it said pregnant women should not come in contact with the pill. what kinds of birth defects would it cause?
A: Most medicines can cause lots of side-effects even if one is not pregnant so taking medicine while pregnant is a high risk to the fetus so pregnant women should have a doctor's supervision in what drug to intake.
Some pills stop the growth of causative agents and in the process can affect the growth of the fetus and sometimes causing disfiguration/ mutations or in more critical cases an untintentional abortion

I was prescribed this medication off-label for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. I'm also hoping it will help me get rid of unwanted body hair.
A: Been using it for 7 years.It's been awesome. As the other person said, correct, it won't get rid of body hair.

Q: side effects of Avodart-- reduced level of sperm amount during ejaculation?
I am taking Avodart for about a year. Am able to reach orgasm as usual, but the amount of sperm that is ejected is onle a drop or two, which is frustrating. Is this normal? Is it due to the drug, or could there be another reason? Is there a remedy apart from stopping to take the pill? The drug is doing the work it is meant to do, I sleep thru the night without having to urinate, but still, the lack of sperm is troubleing.
A: I am taking Flomax for a prostate problem. Flomax causes retrograde ejaculation which means that when you ejaculate the semen goes back into the bladder instead of out the usual end. Now when I masturbate I produce 4 or 5 drops of very clear, sticky liquid. The feeling is the same, but the output is greatly reduced.

Q: Balding: Does Avodart (dutasteride) work in the long term for balding/thinning hair?
I've been taking gernic Avodart called Dutas for thinning hair for two years now. Theoretically it works similar to Propecia only better as Propecia blocks one form of DHT and dutasteride blocks BOTH forms of DHT. I shedded at first as is expected to make room for healthy new hairs, the shedding stopped and my crown filled in quite well, but of course not like when I was fifteen - it was still a little thinner in the back. It stayed that way for over a year, but now, two years after starting Dutas, the shedding has begun again. The hairs that are falling out are thin and weak looking. are they ones that have been holding on all this time and are just now falling out to make room for better ones, or has the medicine stopped working and it's back to balding? Should I stop the meds or keep going? Once again there is noticable thinning in the back after 1 1/2 years of satisfactory results. Can the body build an immunity to this medicine?

Q: I have enlarged prostate, I tried avodart and uroxotral which didnt give me relief, is there any alt medicine?

Hair loss is due to mineral deficiencies and the loss of stem cells that naturally are found in the scalp. Minerals are depleted from the body due to infections and lack of minerals in foods you eat. Additionally, the lack of "B" vitamins can also have a big effect as well as fatty acid imbalances due to poor food choices.
