Q: How quickly do side effects show up when starting Paxil?
I am going to stop taking fluoxetine, which is generic prozac, to Paxil. After reading endless horror stories about Paxil I want to get a different prescription. I have been recomended to ease up to 40 mg's of Paxil within roughly 12 days since that was the dosage I was on with Fluoxetine. I don't want to stop cold turkey but want to know how long before the possible wrath of Paxil side effects start. Thanks for the info everyone. But how soon should side effects be expected to show up? After one dose? After 3 days? I'm sure everyone has different experiences but how soon did you notice the side effects for you?

A: side effect may show up after 5-7 days sometimes it takes longer. But generally serious side effect of AD will come after 2 weeks. Dont worry much about the side effect. Any drug has its cost but the effect is counted

Q: How long does it take for the body to absorb paxil?
I'm asking because I took my paxil (60mgs) almost 3 hours ago and now I wanna take a laxative before I go to bed. I'm scared that if I take the laxative the paxil won't be absorbed by my body and it won't have any effect.

A: I take paxil myself and have never had any problems with laxitives. I know that when you first start taking it takes two weeks to a month to realy get into your system. But within three hours it should have already have been absorbed. For more complete info. on paxil, go to: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/mono-9095-PAROXETINE+-+ORAL.aspx?drugid=6968&drugname=Paxil+Oral

Q: What are the possible side effects of taking 10mg of Paxil and St. Johns Wort together?
I am suffering from depression and anxiety..... I have been taking herbal supplements recently. St. Johns Wort, Valerian Root, and Kava Kava. Can I combine any of these herbal remedies with my Paxil or should I just take the Paxil alone?

A: dont take st john's wort...it has something to do with the release of neurotransmitters and the effects of your paxil

Q: How long does it usually take for paxil to start working on anxiety?
Have had anxiety for a long time and was wondering if anyone has had success from paxil and how long did it take???

A: About 4 weeks, but it may be up to 8. Paxil is known to be quite effective for anxiety. You may want to discuss with your doctor going on a benzo like Valium, which can help in the short-term and will be able to help you deal with your anxiety until the Paxil takes effect.

Q: Does Paxil really work for social anxiety?
I'm 16 years old and have social anxiety. I'm scare to talk to people and don't have any friends at all. I've been like this for 3 years and I want to stop. But are there dangerous risks when taking Paxil? Does it really work? Would I have to take Paxil everyday for the rest of my life?

A: I took paxil for about a year. It didn't help my anxiety and I didn't like the side effects. The one warning I would give anyone who begins on paxil is never stop taking it cold turkey. You have to gradually dose down if you want to stop. so, be sure you always have medication available each day. I don't want to scare you away from it either. Many people take paxil and it works for them. The best advice I can give you is that your anxiety can be cured naturally without the use of drugs. There are many self-help programs and/or counseling that can assist you in getting rid of your anxiety problem. Social anxiety disorder is really just a convenient medical term anyway. It isn't a disease. At your age it is normal for many people to have anxiety and you shouldn't worry about having it the rest of your life. You can live anxiety free. Just look into all of your options to deal with it.

Q: How can I reach a orgasm while taking paxil?
I just started paxil about 2 weeks ago and I can't reach a orgasm. Is there anything I can do?

A: some doctors add a stimulant such as ritalin or wellbutrin to paxil patients who are experiencing sexual dysfunction but i'm not in favor of treating a side affect with another drug as it can lead to more side affects. sexual dysfunction has been reported far less frequently with zoloft and prozac. i would try either of those to see if your orgasms are restored. like paxil, zoloft and prozac are also SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors)

Q: How long does it usually take to feel normal again after stopping paxil?
I stopped taking paxil 2 yrs ago after being on it for 2 yrs and im not sure if i feel like myself ever since, even after being on zoloft. Could I still be in paxil withdrawal or is it just all in my head?

A: I took Paxil, too, and had a hell of a time getting off of it. I was nauseous, off balance, felt like I was getting zapped by something and when I turned my head, it felt like my skull would turn, and then the inside of my head would catch up. It was not fun. But once I did get off of it, I felt normal again. I don't think anything could stay in your system for 2 years. Are you taking anything now? I wonder if it's not something else that's making you feel different? Good luck.

Q: How many of you have experienced weight gain on Paxil?
I have only been taking Paxil a few days and already notice a weight gain. I don't eat hardly anything yet I notice weight gain.

A: I gained 20 lbs on Paxil, but my doctor switched me to Wellbutrin when I was ready to come off of antidepressants and I lost about 30 lbs on Wellbutrin. The switch from Paxil to Wellbutrin wasn't great but it wasn't unbearable either. In all honesty though, I think the weight gain on Paxil was worth it. I have depression, generalized anxiety, and social anxiety, all of which Paxil treats. It just made me a whole new person for the better. Effexor, which for me is comparable to Paxil, isn't known for causing as much weight gain.

Q: hi everyone is there anything i can take with paxil anti deppressant to reduce sexual side effects?
i would prefer not to get off paxil just would like to know if there are any natural remedies or other drugs i can combine. thanks everyone for your advice.

A: I had the same issue, and I spoke to my doctor about it.. I don't know of any contradicting drug, nor am I sure that's a very good idea. She put my on Lexapro and my sex drive came right back! (Maybe not quite as strong as before, but still much better than the zilch it was while on Paxil)... Other than that, while I was on it, I would force myself to go ahead and have sex w/my boyfriend, and would find that I was in the mood once we started things up, I just had to get over that "I don't really feel like it.." thing first.. also perhaps talk to your partner and ask them if, since you're experiencing this issue, if they'd be willing to initiate some things that specifically turn you on, so that it'll get you interested. Good luck to you, I know it's hard.

Q: I'm taking paxil and oxybutynin at the same time. What are the interactions and effects that can occur?
I just started on oxybutynin but i have been on paxil for a long time.

A: There are no known interactions between paxil and oxybutynin.

Q: What can happen to a person mentally and physically if they are taking paxil and drink ALOT every night?
My ex boyfriend changed after taking paxil. He has always drank every night but he started to drink even more while on the paxil. He is paranoid and moody. He has become disrespectful and nothing and I mean nothing is his fault. He blames me for everything all the time. When all I ever asked him to do was get some help.

A: I called my pharmacist, she said you should NEVER mix the two, it can cause terrible side effects, such as serious mood swings, suicidal thoughts, and night sweats, etc, also if he is caught on the road by a policeman, he will get taken to jail, for mixing booze and drugs. BAD NEWS....Take care of yourself, o.k.? Also you can call alcoholics anonomous and ask them what to do. Niki.

Q: Lexapro helped my depression and social anxiety a bit but not all the way, could Paxil work better?
Also, I had some difficulty getting an erection while on Lexapro. Is it possible this symptom would not occur on Paxil?

A: paxil works very well for social anxiety but you will most likely have the same problem with getting an erection.

Q: Can paxil cause you to break out with acne?
I have been on paxil for about a week now. Since I started taking it. My face has broken out with zits! I don't usually have this problem. My face is really greasy and feels like I need to wash it every hour.

A: Ask your doctor about this. There may be a connection, but it may be purely coincidence. There is some research that suggests the hormones found in dairy products and a western diet in general may be a factor, but there are many others. Hormones, heredity, greasy cosmetics, stress, humid polluted climates, irritation to the skin, chafing, and squeezing pimples all can contribute to acne.

Q: What was your first experience with paxil like?
I am taking it for the first time tonight. 10mg and I'm 17 years old. I'm actually kind of scared to take it. I am a hypochondriac though so I've kind of been obsessing over the side effects. All I keep reading though is stories about getting OFF of paxil, but I want to hear about your first times! Please help me calm down? Haha. Thank you in advance.
