Q: Seroquel XR???
A friend of mine gave me a pill called Seroquel XR because I was complaining of anxiety. What are the effects of this? I had never heard of it before.

A: Seroquel is an antipsychotic. I administer this med to patients with Alz/Dementia related dieases. It's to strong of a med to be taken for just anxiety. Long-term use of it can also lead to neurological problems such as unvoluntary movements, drooling and things of that nature but only after long long term use. If it worked well on you great.. but I suggest you not use this med on a regular basis and just stick to more suitable anti-anxiety medication.

Q: what is the difference between seroquel and seroquel xr?
Another thing, i took seroquel in the past and i didnt get akathisia from it, does seroquel xr gives you akathisia or is it like the other seroquel

A: Seroquel XR means: Seroquel extended release. This formula differs from standard Seroquel in that it releases the drug slowly into the bloodstream, keeping the levels stable. Standard Seroquel delivers the dose all at once, so you have high levels of anti-psychotic, followed by a drop. Seroquel XR keeps this from happening by releasing the drug gradually, keeping the drug levels stable. The only time it would be more beneficial to have the standard Seroquek would be when its prescribed for insomia, obviously then you'd want the whole sedative effects at once. If you didn't have side-effects with the ordinary Seroquel you shouldn't with the XR; the drug's the same, its the delivery system thats different.

Q: How long does it take to feel the effects of Seroquel XR?
I was wondering how long - minutes wise - Seroquel XR takes to kick in? I've been taking it right before laying in bed, but it seems like hours until I fall asleep. I'm currently taking 400mg Seroquel XR, 1,500mg Depakote DR, and 200mg Trazadone as I have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder with psychotic features.

A: i was on a lower dose than you (200mg xr) but it took about half an hour to an hour to kick in, quicker on a full stomach. i'm bp with psychotic features too!

Q: How does seroquel XR compare to regular seroquel in terms of drowsiness?
Does it make you feel so drowsy you cant get up in the morning or is it evened out throughout the day? i have an AWFUL time getting up after taking normal seroquel, if i dont get 10 hours of sleep i'm screwed and i feel like its depriving me of life when i sleep that long.

A: Seroquel and seroquel XR have only one difference, XR means Extended release. (It lasts longer) I have taken both. XR made me doped for the entire day. I would suggest talking to your doctor for a completely new medication. However, different people react differently with each medication, I'm only speaking for myself.

Q: Is there much difference between taking Seroquel 300mg once at night compared to taking Seroquel XR 300mg?
I was taking Seroquel 150mg morning and night but the morning one knocks me out too much in the day.

A: a little i'm prescribed both, i find that taking the xr while sleeping tends to wear off a bit faster then the regular seroquel i actually like taking the ex during the day even though it hit's really strong at first and the regular at night i feel i get a deeper better sleep. been on regular about 10 year's now, and the xr about a8 month's depends on if you gotta jump right outta bed cause the xr hit's strong at first.

Q: Is it safe to take ativan with seroquel xr? What would be a better mix ativan or klonopin?
for anxiety due to a manic and mix faze.

A: Yes, in the correct dosage. I take Seroquel 100mg daily at night and 2mg - 4mg Ativan at night with it when I'm very anxious. It's safe as long as your doctor keeps an eye on your blood tests. The reason being that Seroquel (which acts on Dopamine levels) can cause all sorts of problems including Diabetes and Tardive Dyskinesia (an often permanent illness causing loss of fine motor control and tremor.)

Q: Is it safe to take ativan with seroquel xr? What would be a better combo ativan or klonopin?
for anxiety due to a manic mixed episode of bipolar.

A: Yes its safe to take together. Ativan is short acting, suggest not taking the 2mg dose, take smaller than that, klonopin is long acting. Both are benzos and used for anxiety. Seroquel is a very necessary drug and enables many people to function who otherwise could not. Understand that having bipolar disorder, it is chronic by nature and you will need to be on stabilizers at least through menopause because bipolar progresses over time, stopping meds as the other responder suggests subtlely is not only not a good idea, its potentially disastrous.

Q: How many hours of sleep should I be getting with Seroquel XR?
also, what is this medication for? I asked my doctor what I have and he said im wonderful and i dont need a label...

A: From what I know, it is Seroquel XR used to treat Bi-Polar disorder on up to schizophrenia. I was curious, so I went to the website and they say they don't even know how it works! (yet it does?) http://www.seroquelxr.com/seroquel-xr-bipolar-disorder.aspx Indications Seroquel XR is a once-daily tablet approved to treat acute depressive episodes in bipolar disorder; acute manic or mixed episodes in bipolar disorder alone or when added to lithium or divalproex; long-term maintenance of bipolar disorder when added to lithium or divalproex; and schizophrenia. I can't tell you how much sleep you should be getting, I highly doubt that this is prescribed for a seep medication. (as drowsiness is a side-effect - seems like if you were trying to sleep and they prescribed this for you, drowsiness would NOT be the side effect. I called my friend. She's bi-polar and has spent hours in the mental health center and with talking with people there, she has heard more negative things than positive about this Seroquel drug. My friend said she was on it for about 6 months or so and could easily sleep 10hrs yet feels like she could sleep another 10! ... She said after a while, your sleep patterns should regulate but if they don't after 2-3 months that should raise red flags. I have to admit, the doc not telling you what your diagnosis is also not a good sign; and you being a patient, you have a right (legally) to know and if he won't tell you, then you need to either find another doctor. If you have any more questions, feel free to message me and I can ask my friend. Take care, and good luck

Q: Is there a difference from seroquel an seroquel XR ?
or are they just the same thing but with the words XR at the end of it?

A: Seroquel XR is a modified release, this means it slowly releases the chemicals into the body over a 24hr period compared to normal Seroquel which releases in one go. I take Seroquel 600mg daily.

Q: is this how seroquel XR should be working?
so i`m feeling constant extreme anxiety and stress, that fully overtakes me and i simply can`t functionate with those feelings, they get stronger and stronger. Doctor prescribed me Seroquel XR and lately i have noticed that after a good sleep in day i feel better and can little bit start to do something and pay attention to my actions. is this how it should work ? i have taken 16 pills.

A: I sure hope you didn't take 16 pills all at once because that obviously wouldn't be good for you. But Seroquel XR ( Extended Release ) works a few hours after you take it. I take 150 Mg of Seroquel XR every night because I fall asleep very easily but I don't stay asleep and the Seroquel XR helps me stay asleep so I can get a decent night's sleep. It should help you sleep or stay asleep so you actually get a decent night and that in the morning, you feel refreshed and have the energy to do what you have to do.

Q: Do you prefer regular Seroquel or Seroquel XR?
Seroquel is a Medication for Schizophrenia and Bipolar disorder. Have you used both? What do you prefer? Why?

A: i used to take seroquel , i was sleepy all the time and had a hard time getting up even if i had 8 hours of sleep. now im taking seroquel xr, so far so good, i feel a lil tired and craving for junk food quite often.... i hope i wont gain any weight like i did with seroquel

Q: what benzo is safe to take with seroquel xr?
I recently swiched docs and I was just perscribed seroquel. I took it last night and still couldnt sleep and I feel really restless and snappy. I also am having anxiety. I was taking ativan before from my other doc. with it be safe to combine the two?., I dont feel woozy or anything just unstable. Pease let me know asap. is it normal to feel this way after taking it

A: I took Xanax (anxiety med) along with Seroquel. To further clear your mind, call your pharmacist and ask to speak to one and ask if you can take the two together. The unstable feeling is from the Seroquel. It is a side effect that will eventually go away once your body adjusts to it.

Q: What is the half life of Seroquel XR, the new reformulated version of Seroquel?

A: 12.3 Pharmacokinetics The mean-terminal half-life is approximately 7 hours for quetiapine and 9 to 12 hours for N-desalkyl quetiapine within the clinical dose range. Steady-state concentrations are expected to be achieved within two days of dosing.

Q: I fell asleep last night before taking my seroquel xr should I take it the next morning morning?

A: No, just skip it.

Q: I am currently taking 800 mg of seroquel XR (extended release tablets) will I trip on lsd?
I have heard that seroquel will stop an acid trip in 30 minutes. so since I have it in my system constantly will i trip if i take acid?

A: Quetiapine (the active ingredient in Seroquel) does not actually negate an entire trip, but rather various noticeable portions of it. Thus if you begin your LSD trip while already on the drug, you will certainly notice an alteration in perception, albeit much differently than the average person does. While I have never known anyone who has taken a regular regimen of Quetiapine, the people that I've spoken to about combining it with LSD agree that it is at the least an interesting combination.
