Q: How is Januvia working for your Diabetes ?
I'am new to Januvia. Just started useing it and also taking Metformin for the first time. I'am on Actos as well. Because Januvia is a new drug I was wondering how it was working for other people.
So far Januvia is working well.
A: i am also currently taking januvia and well i am not sure it is working as well as i had hoped, i seem to have better results with the byetta shot
Q: Have you experienced side effects from diabetes drug Januvia?
Do you research a drug in the internet before you begin taking it? There are some concerns with Januvia's side effects.
A: I loved Januvia. But when the newer version of it "Janumet" came out my doctor put me on that. Janumet has metformin in it. It sort of made food taste differently for a few days, but after that I had no side effects and it worked great on lowering blood readings. I didn't have any side effects when I was on Januvia either. I no longer have to take it because I have been watching my diet and exercising better than I used to. The person above is correct. The pharmacist told me there are actually very few side effects of Januvia and they have to list every single thing that ever happened to anyone during the studies, even if it was a broken fingernail. I took both of these drugs with a long lasting insulin. I never had a bad drop in blood sugar. It was great to be on.
Q: Question about Januvia for Type 2 Diabetes?
My Doctor is considering putting me on Januvia, depending on what my A1c results are, coming up.
I cannot take Metformin because of the side effects.
Are there any of you taking or have been on Januvia, and what are your thoughts about this medicine.
A: My thoughts on all medications for type two diabetes are as follows...
If you can't deal with adopting a healthy diet and exercising each day, then learn to deal with the side effects of the medication(s), or learn to inject insulin. It's really that simple.
I took Metformin for many years. I dealt with the side effects. I hated them. I learned that through a healthy, natural foods based diet with all of it's nutrients, I could lower my insulin resistance better than any medication in existence. I also learned that plenty of moderate daily exercise lowers blood sugar better than any medication as well. If you're not willing to make a major change in lifestyle, then go ahead and go down that road of trying different medications. If you are willing to do what it takes to get off the medications, then read my profile.
Q: Any feedback on using Januvia and Metformin?
Had high Ha1c levels with last blood test. Currently taking 2000mgs/day of metformin and doctor wants to try Januvia and Metformin combo... would appreciate any feedback.
A: don't hesitate to use that combination, i have been on it since januvia came out and my a1c is now down to 5.1
Q: How are you dealing with Januvia?
Any intestinal concerns? Allergies killing you? Sinus Problems? Long term use? If you can tell me exactly how it works that would be great. Compare to Metformin.
A: How Effective is Januvia?
In 2008 the drug companies spent more money marketing Januvia to doctors than they did on any other drug prescribed for a non-psychiatric condition. Not so surprisingly, there were more new prescriptions written for Januvia than for any other new drug.
Though commonly accepted practice guidelines state that patients newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes should be started on Metformin and possibly Insulin, the marketing onslaught has led to Januvia or the combination drug, Janumet (Januvia and Metformin) being prescribed to a very large number of people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes

Q: Does anyone know anything about the drug Januvia?
My fiance' was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was put on it. The paper that came with the prescription really didn't give much info. Is anyone on this drug that could give me some info? Thanks in advance!
A: Here's more on Januvia than you ever wanted to know from drugs.com

I take gloucovance myself. But diet and exercise are the most important part of controlling type II. The body produces insulin, but it gets trapped in fatty tissue. The better he controls his weight, the better his control will be.
And, when he gets romantic, teach him to say--"Got some artificial sweetener for me, baby?"
Q: can you use medicine glipizide and januvia together?
I would like to know if you can you use glipizide and januvia together is it safe???
A: Glipzide is for diabetes, call the pharmacy and ask them.
Q: Anyone with type two diabetes on Januvia?
I was on a metformin, but I hate taking it becuase it gives me severe leg cramps? Would you recomend me asking my doctor about this medication? Any good luck managing your type two diabetes better?
A: I was also on metformin, 250mg/day. My doc at that time pushed it to 1000mg/day and I had a severe reaction to it. I learned later that he should have slowly increased the dosage as to avoid a severe reaction LOL.
I have also tried Januvia. For me, it did work, it lowered my BS and curbed my appetite (a very nice side effect). Unfortunately, I also got the hives from it and had to come off it. Same for Byette. They both worked for me, but both caused hives. Bummer!
Everyone is so very individual when it comes to managing our diabetes. My advice is this: see an endocrinologist. And remember that YOU are the one in control. I struggled for many months to get my primary care doc to try oral meds as I wanted off of insulin. I got nowhere and my brother recommended I go to an endo. Which I did. And she explained things to me that no other doc in 10 years of diabetes had explained to me. That alone helped me to handle being on insulin a little better. She also was willing to try a combo of insulin and oral meds. We're working on it :-) Good luck!!
Q: Are there any new medicines on the market besides Byetta and Januvia.?
I am on glucotrol, metformin, januvia and have tried Byetta. Nothing seems to work for me. I don't want to go on Insulin. Any suggestions. I have also done Lapband surgery. I am at my wits end.
A: If nothing seems to work for you, then why not go on insulin? What are you afraid of? A little needle stick?
Of course, I felt the same way until my then 2 year old grandson was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and went on 4 shots of insulin a day. All of a sudden I realized that grown ups aren't allowed to complain about some things - being on insulin being one of them. Insulin really works for many people - as type 2s we can use diet, exercise, drugs and/or insulin. Up to you.
Q: My doctor wants to add januvia 100mg once a day for my type 2diabetes. I generally have fbg ~100 and pp~155.?
Any serious side effects with this medication. I am already on oral medication for diabetes since 10 years and my doctor wants me to go for insulin rather than januvia, but prescribed it as an alternative for the time being.
A: Januvia has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which the reported side effects from a group of people taking the drug are documented and compared to another group not taking the medicine. In these studies, the most common side effects of Januvia included:
•Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold) -- reported in up to 6.3 percent of people
•Sore throat and runny or stuffy nose -- reported in up to 5.2 percent of people
•Headaches -- reported in up to 5.2 percent of people
•Diarrhea -- reported in up to 3 percent of people
•Abdominal pain (or stomach pain) -- reported in up to 2.3 percent of people
•Nausea -- reported in up to 1.4 percent of people.
The percentage of people who experienced low blood sugar while taking Januvia (1.2 percent) was similar to people who were not taking Januvia (0.9 percent).
Are you exercising daily. This will bring your numbers down. Walk at least 30 min . a day

Q: Would you rather live in Januvia or Genovia? Read details before you answer, please.?
Without looking it up, googling it or hitting search, this includes Wikipedia, etc.
Which one would you choose to live in and why?
A: Ha! Genovia is not a real place.
However, I would not mind visiting Genova, Italy
Good question!
Peace, Blessings and Joy
I just looked up Januvia! lol!
Q: does Januvia make it harder to remember or concentrate?
i have 57 y/o friend who just started januvia and seems too have a harder time concentrating than before the januvia
A: I hadn't heard of that side effect of Januvia. Guess it may be possible, but high glucose numbers do a thing on memory!! It might just be that the high numbers your friend had before starting on the Januvia are now being witnessed.
Q: Januvia long term effect? Has there been any?
Has there been any study on the long term effect Januvia has on individuals with type 2 diabetes? A doctor recommended that it be taken to avoid left over fluid, but I can't help to wonder how much this drug company may have paid off these doctors to recommend this drug. Am I being delusional?
A: The stuff hasn't been out that long for any conclusive studies. You're right to be concerned. All drugs have their side effects, both long and short term. Januvia acts on certain enzymes during the digestion process resulting in improvement in insulin secretion while inhibiting glucagon secretion/glycogen conversion thereby lowering blood sugar levels. I'm always concerned about increasing insulin production in our broken bodies. Sulfonylureas do that. The long term result is having to go to insulin. We should be seeking to reduce our insulin requirements, not forcing our overworked pancreas to do more. Read my article on how I got off the diabetes meds completely here: http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type_II_Diabetes.html
Q: I have type 2 diabetes. my doctor prescribed Januvia and metaglip. They seem to be the same medication. Help?
I might be wrong.... can someone help me...I dont want to over do my diabetes meds.
A: I don't blame you for being concerned. If you don't want to overdo your meds (and you are right to think you might be overdoing them), then learn all you can about how they work and why your doctor thinks you need them. Once you learn that diet and exercise are a FAR more potent method of treating type two diabetes, you might have more incentive to do what it takes to get off the drugs before you end up on insulin. I did.
Once you learn what sulfonylureas like Glipizide do, (they wear out the insulin producing islets of the pancreas necessitating insulin later on), you'll likely find some motivation to get off the drugs. Metformin isn't nearly as bad, but it's not without it's dark side. Many doctors are guilty of 'polypharmacy' and should be forced to take everything they prescribe, in my opinion.

Q: Has anyone used Januvia, did it work, if so how soon?
A: Yes, I used it for awhile. It worked very well, and took about 2 weeks until I really saw a difference in my blood sugar. When I started taking it though, I did get sick like I had a chest cold or something for about a week. I also took the new and improved version of Januvia called Janumet. It worked well too.
